Texas vs Nebraska Game 2 Thread ***SA 2:00 PM CST***

Oh well. You win some and you lose some
And it's really hard to argue with much about today's effort.  There were a few things to nitpick, (couple of errors, a handfull of K looking,) but overall, it was a classic pitchers' duel

Anytime you get 15 zeroes thrown at you all you can do is tip your hat and go play tomorrow. Hollingsworth had a job to do. The hitters have a job to do now you just go do it. It's a new day.

But if we just had a new hitting coach then we would never have a great game thrown against us. That's the way they do it in T-ball.

Hitting coach or not, I have to believe that is just a product of the game of T-ball.  ;)

Is that what the kids say these days? I need to brush up on my lingo.
Slim now hip with the young kids' lingo?

Slim is a well-traveled guy, but I'm not sure he's the definitive authority on what's cool with the kids.

Our players would have struck out looking at the T today
You're not giving the pitchers enough credit.

The kid who won the game, Chestnut, is now 4-0 in 13 appearances and his ERA is now under 1.00.

Also, prior to today, he had 11 Ks in 56 BF in 18.0 innings of work.

Their starter, Kubat, went 8.0 innings and struck out 9.  Prior to today's game, he was 4-0 in 6 appearances, with an ERA of 1.60 and 24 Ks in 39.1 innings of work.

Hohensee, prior to today, had an ERA of 1.29 in 4 appearances, and 9 Ks in 7 innings of work.

Howell, prior to today, had an ERA of 1.26 in 12 appearances and 16 Ks in 14.1 innings of work.

I realize that NU has not played a ton of great competition, but those are pretty solid stat lines for pitchers.

FINAL: Nebraska 1 – Texas 0

After only scoring a single run in the series’ first game, Texas was again limited by Nebraska in Game 2. After 14 scoreless frames, the Longhorns succumbed to the Huskers 1-0 in 15 innings. The win gave Nebraska a series victory, and puts pressure on Texas to salvage the trip to Lincoln with a win on Sunday.

Texas batters only managed four hits and three walks on the day, but Longhorn pitchers were able to hold Nebraska at bay. However, Husker starter Kyle Kubat turned in a sterling effort, hurling eight innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball while striking out nine Longhorns.

Kasey Clemens started for the Horns and had his best outing of the season. Clemens frustrated Nebraska with a solid mix of three pitches, limiting the Huskers to just two hits and one walk in seven innings of work. Clemens appeared to get a cramp in his hand in the eighth frame, and Skip Johnson immediately went to the bullpen for Kirby Bellow, who continued Clemens’ trend and held Nebraska scoreless.

The Horns eventually used five more pitchers in addition to Clemens and Bellow – the bullpen combined to scatter six hits over 7.1 innings, only allowing the game winning run in the bottom of the 15th frame. The Nebraska bullpen was even better, striking out 10 Texas batters while only allowing one hit in 7 innings.

Five Longhorns struck out more than once and Ben Johnson was the only Texas player with multiple hits. Travis Duke fell to 1-1 on the season, taking the loss when Austin Darby singled home the winning run.
