Happy Tuesday Seamheads.
Absolutely huge week for Texas Baseball starts tonight.
The Horns host Incarnate Word in the Tuesday evening matchup, which precedes a 3-game set at UFCU Disch Falk Fields against West Virginia to close out the regular season schedule.
Texas currently sits at 31-19, (9-11 in Big 12,) and just outside of the Top 25. As of today, Texas is projected as a #3 seed in what would likely be a highly unfavorable regional setting, (think Oregon St.)
Texas certain can make some noise this week with a 3/4 or 4/4 record against Incarnate Word and WVU. A 2/2 or worse showing would almost certainly solidify their low seed in a tough regional. Additionally their Big 12 tournament performance will be something that the committee will look at, but their overall body of work will probably carry greater weight than merely the tournament play.
A look at the numbers as of today:
Warren Nolan:
RPI: 23
SOS: 11

RPI: 23
SOS: 14
vs. Top 25 RPI: 4-12, with 8 of those 12 losses by 1 run
vs. Top 50 RPI: 7-13
vs. Top 100 RPI: 21-18
Texas has all the numbers of a solid 2-seed, but after getting swept in Ft Worth, they're back to being projected as a 3-seed.
Win this week, and it changes things, and Texas will once again be in the position of a 2-seed. Stumble and it's even more likely that they're headed up to Oregon for a regional appearance in Corvallis.

Nick Kennedy gets the nod on the bump tonight.

Notes for the week:
- I'll be traveling this weekend and won't be on the WVU call. Perhaps Will or Harrison will pick up the slack
- I'll start a weekend baseball thread on Friday morning as a reminder, but I won't be available for too much banter or any PBP.
- With HS Playoffs taking place around the state, I've heard that Coach Allen will be at the Heath vs Woodlands series on Thursday in Georgetown watching a few players. Likely that our own Donald Boyles will be out that way as well, camera in hand!
- As the father of a college player, this always makes me happy: 9 players for UT were named to the Big 12 All Academic Team; http://texassports.com/news/2017/5/16/baseball-places-nine-on-academic-all-big-12-teams.aspx
