I don't think the tournament starts until Thursday. If Augie is really worried about using our pitchers before then he's making a severe misjudgment.

Joey I totally agree with everything you said. What I don't like is the University of Texas having those low expectations in the first place.

Should have won the first game. Second game was understandable. Augie could have gone for the win but did the right thing and didn't burn our arms. Which is why I said I always have mixed feelings about conference tournaments. Texas probably could have won the second game if they used the better pitchers out of the bullpen. It's always an interesting call, do you burn your bullpen heading into the regionals or do you go for the Big 12 title? There's a reason why the majority of the time the Big 12 winner never makes it to the CWS. It was fairly clear in the second game that Auge wasn't going to sacrifice his arms for one victory, which I agree with. 

Still like what I saw this weekend though. Three starters were very good, and we actually hit the ball fairly well in every game except the first one today. Most importantly we didn't burn our arms heading into the regionals, that's all I really care about. 

Like our chances to get out of regionals too. Will probably be sent to Houston or Rice, both teams we've beaten this year. Will depend on who we face in the supers.

I strongly disagree about the concern of burning out our arms.

We don't have a Tuesday game next week we may not even play a tourney game until Friday. And if we play on Thursday so what that's five days from now.

Come tournament time there's no telling how many games/innings you use a pitcher. You want your arms as fresh as possible. Wouldn't surprise me if Thornhill starts and pitches in relief a game. Also, wouldn't surprise me if Hollingsworth pitches every game. Those arms have to be fresh coming into the part of the season that really matters. May not be noticeable but pitching is often give and take. You use Hollingsworth a couple extra innings this weekend means he's probably not going to be able to give you those couple of extra innings the following weekend.

If a starting pitcher can't pitch every five days then he's not a starting pitcher. If a relief pitcher can't picture every 3 to 4 days then he's not a relief pitcher.

And under most circumstances a reliever should be able to pitch every two or three days.

Those teams are also doing the same thing. LSU, Ole Miss and Florida all conserved their best arms.

Tournament time is different though. Sometimes a starting pitcher may only go 5 and come in another game in relief. Which is again why having your arms fresh is critical. Tournament time= must win. You don't have a schedule for your pitchers. You use them when you need them.

That's the good thing, all our pitchers got time but not extended time. Peters and Thornhill didn't throw many pitches at all (that's why Augie yanked them so soon). Not one of our pitchers threw a high volume of pitches from what I recall, but I think every pitcher got a little action.

One more thing to consider, it's the end of May and at this point, arms are sore & tired. They also don't recover as quickly.

Would he be ready to go Thursday and maybe throw some relief on Saturday? That's the point, you don't know how many innings your best arms are going to throw this weekend.

Oklahoma State is bringing in a pitcher that hasn't pitched since high school for the championship game. Please get rid of the conference tournament. I've come to the conclusion it's utterly worthless. After the first game or two coaches aren't going to use their arms. Just schedule another series or something.

Can't remember. From what I recall I think most years we made runs to the CWS we didn't win the Big 12 tournament. Could be wrong though.

I honestly can't remember. I know in the past few years that Augie has been vocal though about how worthless the conference tourney is. Think it was 2011 where he even said he would prioritize fresh arms going into the regional over a conference tourney title.
