I would guess both Johnson and Hinojosa are gone. Johnson will be a big loss. Not all that mad about Hinojosa, I've heard he's somewhat of a cancer in the lock room. I think we can also upgrade with Baker.

Either way, good luck to both guys in their decision.
Don't forget about McGuire.  He is a SS.  As is Boswell.  Baker will probably be 2B.

And I wouldn't put too much stock at all in that CJ info you heard. He's a good kid.  I'm sure there was some level of frustration with most everyone at certain points this season.

Agreed about Hinojosa. I think it was more of a frustration thing than anything else. I'm guessing that's why he was benched for a few games. I was told by several people it was a problem in the locker room, to what extent I don't know.

He was also dealing with a hand injury for a bit.  And nobody that is in a hitting slump is ever in a good mood.

UT signees drafted today:

Kody Clemens (signee) – 35th round, 1039 overall, Astros

Matthew Schmidt (signee) – 37th round, 1113 overall, Yankees

Tyler Rand (signee) – 39th round, 1168 overall, Rays

Nolan Kingham (signee) – 39th round, 1171 overall, Brewers

Look at what A&M is losing.

JRs-

Kent (13th round), Long (3rd round), Minter (2nd round). Those are 3 potential starting pitchers next year, and they are probably all 3 gone. Taylor (12th round)-starting OF.

SRs-

Allemand (5th round)-starting SS. Nottebrok and Nau weren't drafted, but they were the starting 3B and DH/C. They also lose Freeman a reliever out of the pen.

2015 class-

Burrows (1st round), Russell (1st round), Walters (3rd round), Paddack (8th round). I would guess all are gone.

Not surprising to me at all.

Juniors:

CJ Hinojosa (Drafted)

Ben Johnson (Drafted)

Travis Duke (Not Drafted)

Chad Hollingsworth (Not Drafted)

Ty Culbreth (Not Drafted)

Taylor Stell (Not Drafted)

James Barton (Not Drafted)

Of those 7, 2 were drafted, and IMO that was the right call.

Duke didn't have a stellar season with an ERA of 3.30 and 1-1 record with 1 save.  Senior year at Texas should do him some good.

Hollingsworth had 10 appearances and was fighting the injury bug.  Hopefully his Senior year he will be healthy and a regular contributor to the rotation.

Culbreth should be a major contributor next year for Texas.  He started in relief and moved to starter role due to injuries to other arms.  He had 21 appearances, 3.95 ERA and a 4-5 record with 4 saves

Stell is a spot player that may see some time in the OF or 1B next season, depending on the status of Johnson.

Barton is a good teammate and a bullpen/backup C and will likely stay in that role unless there is some significant injury to both Cantu and Barrera.

Seniors

Collin Shaw (Not Drafted)

Brooks Marlow (Drafted)

Parker French (Drafted)

Grant Martin (Not Drafted)

Ty Marlow (Not Drafted)

Kirby Bellow (Drafted)

As with the Juniors, I think the guys that were drafted (3 of 6) were names that were expected.

Collin Shaw surprises me, although he could probably get an opportunity somewhere if he wants to.  He has the skills in the OF and the stick to play ball somewhere after UT.  He started out on fire but really fell into a slump that he struggled to get out of.  He has some pop in his bat, great speed and is a smart baseball player.  I could see someone inviting him out for a look.

Grant Martin is a bullpen catcher.

Ty Marlow really battled hard to get back from injury this season.  He's a good guy that may try to pitch some more, but he'll probably have to fight to get an opportunity.

That's 13 upperclassmen on the Texas roster this year, 5 got drafted, 7 were not really surprises as they were either battling injury or were not regular contributors, and the only real surprise to me was Shaw.

Outside of that, this is a very young team that returns a lot of experience next year.  Texas gets Duke, Hollingsworth and Culbreth back to have some SR leadership on the mound, along with Johnston, Malmin, Schimpf, Mayes, Sawyer, Cooper, Robinson, Clemens McGuire and McKenzie-all who have some experience.
