Red River Rivalry
This is one of college football's oldest rivalries. So old in fact that the first time they met, in 1900, Oklahoma was a territory. This Saturday will be the 107th meeting and in 2009 The Red River Shoot Out was named the best rivalry in College Football.
The 2008 game, won by Texas 45-35 was named the game of 2008 and one of the best games ever played. It is also the only time a lower seeded team (#5 UT) has defeated a higher ranked team. (#1 OT) Hopefully 2012 will be the second exception to the rule as #15 ranked Texas goes against #13 ranked Oklahoma.
Texas leads the all time series 59 - 42 - 5 but the Longhorns are coming off a 55 - 17 thumping by the Sooners last season. That makes two in a row for OU and Las Vegas has installed Texas as a 3 point favorite for Saturday's game.
Mack Brown will be coaching his 15th game against OU this Saturday and his record in the previous 14 game is 6-8. Conversely Bob Stoups record against Texas is 8-5 since he arrived to OU in 1999.
Game by the Numbers:
Texas is 4-1 on the season and OU is 3-1. Both are 1-1 in the conference and both suffered tough losses. The Sooners losing at home to Kansas St and the Longhorns also losing at home to West Virginia.
Texas is ranked #6 in scoring offense at 46.8 ppg..Oklahoma is 24th at 38.3.
Oklahoma is ranked #21 in scoring defense allowing 16 ppg..Texas is ranked #67 in scoring defense allowing 26.4 ppg.
Davis Ash has been tremendous..completing 77% of his passes for 1276 yards with 11 td's and only one int.
Landry Jones in one less game has completed 63% of his passes for 1037 yards with 7 td's and two ints.
The teams are pretty equal when the rush the ball. OU is averaging 191 ypg while UT is at 201 ypg.
Game Info:
Kickoff is 11 AM this Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The advanced weather forcast is for 82 degrees and partly cloudy. Enjoy.
