Texas - Notre Dame schedule home-and-home for '28 & '29

The University of Texas and the University of Notre Dame have scheduled a home-and-home football series. The Longhorns will travel to South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday, September 9, 2028, and the Fighting Irish will visit Austin on Saturday, September 22, 2029.

These non-conference games will feature two of the most successful programs in NCAA history. Texas ranks fourth on the all-time victory list with 957 wins, while Notre Dame is just one win behind, ranking fifth with 956 victories.

The two teams have faced each other 12 times since 1913, with Notre Dame winning nine of those encounters. Their last meeting was in 2016 in Austin, where the Longhorns triumphed in a thrilling double-overtime game, 50-47, against the No. 10 Irish. The previous year, the No. 11 Irish defeated Texas 38-3 in South Bend.

In 1996, the teams completed a home-and-home series that began in 1995, with Notre Dame winning both games. The 1996 matchup saw the No. 9 Irish narrowly defeat the No. 6 Longhorns 27-24, while in 1995, No. 21 Notre Dame beat No. 13 Texas 55-27.

The teams also met in the Cotton Bowl following the 1969, 1970, and 1977 seasons. Texas’ last victory over Notre Dame before 2016 was in the 1969 Cotton Bowl, where No. 1 Texas defeated No. 9 Notre Dame 21-17. The Irish won the next two Cotton Bowl matchups, defeating the No. 1 Longhorns 24-11 in 1970 and 38-10 in 1977.

Notre Dame won the first two meetings in Austin in 1913 (30-7) and 1915 (36-7). Texas secured a 7-6 victory in South Bend in 1934. The Irish won both games in a home-and-home series in 1952 and 1954 before the historic Cotton Bowl games.

Some of us were there in '95 - partying at the Linebacker, Coaches Sports Bar and Senior Bar on the ND Campus.... what a great trip despite the Irish hanging 55 on us. This will be another great travel game for Texas fans - ND Stadium is a pretty cool/special place in football history. Hopefully this time around we leave with a big win.

Gerry Hamilton has long been the primary voice stating Manning likely wants two years as a starter. This week, he mentioned 2 or 3.

I tend to doubt it would be 3, starting 20 plus games in college is usually plenty in terms of development but I certainly wouldn't complain.
