Texas drops to 17th in AP Poll, despite Win

A much-anticipated opening week of the 2012 college football season is in the books and there were winners and losers as far as the new AP poll is concerned. Most notably Alabama jumped USC for the top spot in the poll after destroying Michigan, which fell from 13th to 19th . The Big 12 keeps six teams in the top 25 with Texas dropping from 15th to 17th, despite a 37-17 win over Wyoming on Saturday. The Sooners dropped one spot to #5 after struggling against UTEP on Saturday night.

'Horns did maintain their #15 ranking in the Coaches Poll which was just released.

Hasnt the AP always held a certain distain for Texas? I seem to remember times where there was a difference of five or six spots in the rankings between the coaches and the ap polls

The atrocity is we dropped a couple of spots but OU only dropped 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They couldn't break away from UTEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Newsflash: UTEP ain't good. Oklahoma looked bad.

I think it had more to do with Nebraska and Ohio State's performance but they were extremely hard on Texas who won by 20 while they voted higher teams like Wisconsin who let Northern Iowa back into the game and OU who struggled with UTEP.

This is a sham vote. My friend who is a UTEP grad said the folks in El Paso are irate as hell at Stoops because he gave UTEP no credit for the way they played. Instead blamed OU for all the mistakes. The official Stoops song:

It is obvious the people that voted in this poll did not watch most of the games and only looked at the scores. This is why polls suck. Why should anyone believe these random people who dont watch most of the games and just vote based on scores. The human element is a flaw in the system.

At least the Coaches Poll kept us at 15th. I don't know why I am complaining about OU maintaining a top 5 ranking - better for us when we beat them in Dallas later next month.
