Texas "Commit" DT Courtney Garnett on Twitter

This post is a classic example of one of the problems here. Its "expected" for us to have that many walk at the last second.
No, it's a trend of late for recruits to see how the team they committed to does in their season, then decide if they want to go there or not. It's normal for most teams.

No, its not normal for most teams. The perceived "elite" dont lose 20% of their classes every year in the last two weeks.

And Texas hasn't been elite for 4 years. That's an entire high school career for this recruiting class.

No, it shouldn't happen at Texas and I agree with you but until Texas is actually elite once again, this is going to happen.

It p!sses me off to no end that this doesn't get discussed more openly. Another thing that people don't understand is that Colorado had more alumni in Calif than in all the then-non-Colorado Big 12 footprint, so when conference realignment became possible, their alumni pushed to have Colorado move to the Pac so their fans could see them play more often. Instead of discussing these facts, aggy has gotten away with claiming they ran away to escape the oppressive tactics of Texas.
Nick fu@king Voinis could have made sure the image of UT wasn't dragged through the mud by the lies aggy was spewing in the national media, but he was too god-damned fat and Jabba-esque lazy to do his job and instead let UT get portrayed as it has been. Patterson can't fire some people inside Bellmont soon enough for me. I will never understand why a few facts couldn't be explained to the national sports media.
Couldn't agree more, but aggy got away with their lies for two reasons:

1. The DeLoss regime was lazy, self-righteous, and standoffish. "We're Texas".....who gives a damn what aggy and the media think?

2. The national media hacks just can't wait to get their hands on a "class envy" story. Mean old oppressive Texas not collaborating and sharing their wealth with aggy and the Big 12. Forget the fact that aggy never voted for sharing Big 12 revenues equally. You never read that anywhere in the press.

This is why I pull no punches when telling aggy and Cornholer he's full of shit. Good riddance to both. A wannabe and a has-been. \m/

So which is it? Youve said it happens to everyone, then you apparently agree it doesnt happen to the elite.

Schools like Texas, Notre Dame, Stanford and the like don't bend their regular academic standards to allow athletes in. The NCAA has minimum requirements for athletes. Schools aren't required to adhere to those if their standards are higher. Some schools aren't going to "dumb" down their requirements.
It's similar to the Prop-48 standards that conferences allowed. Nebraska lived off those guys for years until Texas came in and put their foot down and by and large cut hat completely out. The NCAA allowed Prop-48 kids, but the conference did not.
Very interesting. Thanks for the shared insight. :)
