With all the excitement regarding firing of football coaches, Texas basketball has taken a backseat.

After pulling out a close win over a bad McNeese St, they beat a pretty decent UAB by 10. The same UAB team that lost by 11 pts to Kentucky earlier this year.

I was able to attend the UAB team and the thing that stood out to me the most is every Texas player who stepped on the court will return next year. Kai Jones will be someone to watch. That young man has some athletic talent. He played good D, had some blocks and steals., he just needs to work on his offense.

Jones was on fire from 3pt land. After his 1st shot, which was a miss, he was hesitant to shoot. During a TO, Smart walked out to him and started talking to him. I'm pretty Smart was saying "Shoot the ball if you're open!" because after that Jones was firing and hitting.

Side note: Purdue, who Texas beat at their house, beat #5 Virginia 69-40 in the ACC/B10 Challenge. That score is not a typo!

Next game is against aggy this Sunday.

Still waiting to see if this team is legit or not.  Texas A&M isn't a good team and Texas should win easily on Sunday.  And you are right - a lot of youth on this team, but Shaka needs to make the tourney and win a round or two....

Scipio Texas interviewed on morning radio saying he feels Jones can’t play defense.  I didn’t watch the game, but it sounded like he did well and helped them win.

Well he is a better offensive player than defensive without a doubt. Yes, he played a key role in the win vs UAB.

Jones must have heard Scipio and got pissed about it because today against aggy he played some very good defense!
