Is the Texas baseball team going to be good enough to take it all at the Baseball Championship in Omaha. I guess what I am really asking in a nice way is can we bunt our way to the college Baseball Championship? :D My friends y'all have a great weekend

No, it's groundhog day again all over and over and over. Patterson needs to flip the channel to another show.

Jim,

It's still early, but so far this season, this team has played a strength of schedule, (SOS,) anywhere from #2 to #6 in the country, depending upon where you look. They are 11-4 through today, which is MUCH better than most expected at this point.

They are a young team, are going to take their lumps at times; they're going to struggle with scoring runs at times, and go crazy at others. I think the first third of the season has gone very well, given our youth. Conference play begins next Friday, and that will tell a lot about the next third of the season.

Including tomorrow's conclusion of today's game and the scheduled contest, there are 38 games remaining in the regular season.

A couple of things to think about, especially for those who are questioning the hitting and run production; we are averaging 4.07 runs per game, (RPG) and are allowing 2.8 runs per game, (RAPG).

Now, let's take a look at some of the top teams, run production, rank and SOS

#1 Univ. of Virginia; SOS 66; 6.23 RPG; 2.08 RAPG

#2 Florida State; SOS 98; 8.38 RPG; 2.85 RAPG

#3 S. Carolina; SOS 156; 8.07 RPG; 1.43 RAPG

#4 Cal St. Fullerton; SOS 7; 6.17 RPG; 2.92 RAPG

#7 LSU; SOS 132; 7.07 RPG; 1.6 RAPG

#11 Oregon; SOS 21; 6.29 RPG; 3.43 RAPG

#18 Rice; SOS 12; 4.81 RPG; 2.69 RAPG

While stats can be manipulated to tell a story, in this case, I really want to focus on SOS and RPG. The best teams in the nation are kicking butt when their SOS is low. The ones with a strong SOS, you see their RPG go down. Simply put, when you play tougher competition, you are going to have a harder time scoring runs. Better opponents have better defense and pitching, and thus run production goes down for the teams that are playing them.

So don't get too caught up in whether we have a shot to win it all in Omaha. Do we? Sure, at this point everyone is a contender. It's just too early to make projections for that, as anything can happen. I think if this team hosts a regional and plays in a Super, I'll be thrilled. Anything outside of a regional is gravy as far as I'm concerned.

Hook Em!!

How about this for a random stat?

Texas D has now turned 16 double-plays through 17 games. That's pretty dang impressive!
