I have only seen that situationally. And generally lower levels in HS like FR or JV for a kid that has a tendency to either not hit the curve or has an itchy trigger finger.
Rarely if ever have I seen it at the varsity level. And certainly not prevalent in college.
A kid starting/playing at the D1 level at a school like Texas had better be ready to hit when the climb up the dugout steps with a helmet on. No excuses. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have a good eye, or work walks, but they know what they’re supposed to do. Execution may be off sometimes, but the intent should always be there.
