...need to improve defense on the perimeter (threes obviously)
This is true, but part of the problem is that this is just how basketball is played now and we’re just not built for it.

That being said, I actually liked the strategy I saw today playing a gigantic lineup.  At times we had on the court:

Bamba - Dylan O - Simms

this made the other team one dimensional as there was nothing going up near the paint!  On offense I saw it as “you are what you are.”  We got a ton of points by banging inside.  Why continue to jack up threes when you hit such a low percentage?

Great win!  Team wanted it bad for their friend.  It was a nice game to watch.

Here’s a positive / negative.... Coleman had a very Ehlinger-like game last night.  His great play, penetrating and dishing off to the bigs for throw downs was huge!  However, boy did he make 3 or 4 late game / freshman mistakes that so easily could / should have cost us the game!

Please continue to grow out of that!!!

Agreed!  And to "expand" on this point, isn't "funny" how a true point guard can change the dynamic of a basketball team.  A lot of us (me included) were skeptical if a freshman point guard could come in a fix the ills of this team.  While Coleman hasn't necessarily "fixed" anything, he has given this team some sort of direction or identity rather. "On offense I saw it as “you are what you are.” couldn't sum it up better, 83.  HUGE win imo.  Hopefully they can continue to improve, snatch a few wins from these ranked conference foes, and get a bid in the tourney.  HOOK 'EM!

If you don't hit from outside, they stack the paint thus taking away your inside game. Texas hit 33% last night from the 3, which isn't good but it's not terrible. Personally I believe anything over 40% from that range is good so they weren't that far off.

TCU hit 55% of their 3s but they were forced to shot outside due to Texas' defense by playing the 3 bigs. They had players last night that were hitting them that hadn't all year long. When Bamba picked up his 4th (which wasn't a foul) TCU attacked inside and went on a 15-6 run or something like that

I'm in the minority here but Smart is doing a good job this year. This team has had to face adversity multiple times and while they may not have won every time, they haven't backed down. Last night they played without Jones and Roach and still beat a Top 20 team.

Well stated. He made some great plays then followed them up with "WTH" plays. At the end of the day, I'm glad he's here at Texas!

great win, i went to bed after regulation. figured we'd lose, but I was surprised by my update this morning! #CashStrong

Huge win on a very emotional night. Some thoughts:

(1) We just beat a Top-20 team (that shot 15-27 from 3) without our best offensive player, best perimeter defender, and Bamba being in foul trouble. I know it was frustrating at times, but I'm willing to cut Shaka a little slack considering all those factors. Full disclosure though, I think I'm becoming one of the bigger Shaka apologists on this board.

(2) Obviously I'm watching the game as a fan in the stands, but seriously...the refs killed us tonight. There were some downright terrible calls, with many of them coming at crucial times in the game.

(3) If Bamba stays out of foul trouble, Texas wins that game in regulation by an 8 to 12 point margin. TCU didn't make their run until Mo went to the bench with his 4th foul.

(4) Now that Shaka doesn't have Andrew and Kerwin, he has to give Jacob more minutes. Jacob only played 9 minutes and was 3-4 from the field (2-3 from 3). This team needs shooters, and for better or worse, Jacob is one of the better shooters on this team.

I mentioned one above on Bamba but the one on Simms where he went straight up late in the game was one of those bad calls. The announcers at first tried to state it was a good call but watching the replay, they knew it wasn't.

The Baylor game was even worse, Texas went to the free throw line only 1 time in the second half in that game.
