Switzer says Briles would make Texas like Bama

I'd have to say w/ the right DC he is correct. Briles is No. 2 on my list.

I have wondered why there wasn't more talk of Briles in the coaching rumors... I know Saban is a sexier name, but Briles has a lot of ties to our main recruting areas.

I know it's been mentioned that UT was hesitant to go after another coach in the Big 12 in case they turned them down and then used that as a recruiting pitch. Briles is winning at a place with low expectations, why leave besides the money? I know it's more money but when your already making millions.....

First of all, Screw Barry and his cheating ass.

If Texas went after Briles, it would be a bit more behind the curtain just because of that. I think when teams go after most coaches, they first send feelers to see if there is potential interest.

Briles loves Bu and has built them from nothing and is getting a new stadium and facilities, etc. But, IMO, he will not be coaching in Waco next year. Someone else will come calling, Aggies(already sent out feelers), Texas(after Saban, my second choice) or somewhere else that is a clear step up.

Even though Shitzer could be right on a rare occasion, F@#K him and his ignorant ass.

I don't think that would hurt us all that much and if it did it would be for 1-2 yrs max....and only w/ that program.

NO ART BRILES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS! nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...nope... nope... nope...

Ill need a better argument than that.

Briles will make his case on Dec 7th. Great O mind and can recruit in Texas with the best of them. Getting talent to come to Waco is no easy task.

Rumors abound of Briles "hating" Texas. Anyone want to address that now so we can move on and debate the guy as a coach?

I am acquainted as per these same "rumors". My youngest sister is a Baylor grad, and I have been hearing these same rumors as per a few years now. It is always stated the same "Art Briles "hates" the Texas Longhorns!"

I've never heard any particular reasoning / basis behind it.... he just doesn't like Texas.

Something to keep in mind.

When the Texas job was open and the ou job was about to be, Mack Brown, before making his final decision, called his old coach Barry Switzer to ask his advice as to which he should go after since he had been Switzer's OC. Switzer helped sway Mack by saying that he was the perfect fit for Texas. Switzer and others had their eye on a DC from Florida named Bob Stoops that they wanted and then went out and got the next year. Switzer had the chance to put Mack in line for the ou job. Instead he sold him on Texas to roll the dice on getting Stoops a year later.

So please, take Switzer's opinion for who would be a great coach for Texas with just a few grains of salt. He would lie telling you how to spell his name.

Hook'em!

Likes Texas, doesn't respect Mack
There is no way Briles doesn't respect Mack Brown. 22 winning seasons in 23 years, more time ranked in the BCS poll than any other school, 12 straight bowl appearances while at Texas, best conference winning percentage since the conference was founded, recently elected President of American Football Coaches Association. Briles may be cocky and arrogant, but there is no way Mack hasn't earned the respect of the other coaches.
