...ok gents, go ahead and admit it to yourselves... there is indeed a 5000lb gorilla lurking somewhere in this room...

yes! of course i would love to see nick saban become the next head coach of the texas longhorns. however, unlike many of our extremely passionate posters, i am not afraid to admit to wondering just how on earth should we expect for nick saban to want to journey happily upon the "40 acres", knowing full well that the texas president william powers, is hereby harboring a strong resentment towards him.

due to strong and rampant media over sensationalism, not to mention a huge smorgasbord of university insiders / key players / etc.. we have all become strongly abreast, of the shocking and yet profound proceedings involving williams powers vs mack brown upon last weekend... which has upon the surface, cost us the immediate filling of our now vacant head coaching position.

so now the fun starts! we now are need of a new head coach. most if not all, would give anything for nick saban to drop all... and get his ass over to texas. but what shall happen next? just how on earth shall he and powers look each other in the eye? nick saban is not stupid (for surely by now, he is completely abreast as per all of the upheaval surrounding him involving powers vs mack brown).

and yet, as it currently stands, our bmd's, are doing everything (in as covert manner as possible) to try and lure a somewhat ego damaged nick saban to texas.

are they speaking behind the scenes... is his agent "sexton" communicating with our bmd's dujour... is nick saban's fragile ego really broken... is mack brown still going to be involved behind the scenes with powers... is mack brown and powers sorry for what they did to ut...

Without talking to any one of them personally, it's just a whole lot of conjecture. It does appear that Patterson has taken the reins, and it's gotten really quiet. It's safe to assume that if there is any chance of a Saban reemergence, it's going to have to be this kind of quiet.

And I hope to hell Mack has been neutered and stops his meddling.

You heard Powers at Mack's last presser. To paraphrase:

"Sports aren't my thing. I'm going to leave the hiring to our new, competent AD Steve Patterson"

If Patterson and the BMDs want Saban and he chooses to make himself available.....it'll happen. I don't get a sense that Powers is that strongly against his hiring.

Saban has historically had famous relationships with his chancellors/presidents.

Mark Emmert was President of LSU and was instrumental in getting Saban there.

Emmert is now the head of the NCAA.

And therein lies the problem. Battle does not feel like Saban respects him because Witt backs Saban if there is an issue.

Keep in mind, Saban can scare the hell out of an AD by pushing the envelope.

One key thing to keep in mind regarding Powers is that he'll likely be retired before the new coach plays his first game at Texas. I also suspect the committee formed to hire the new President will look very similar to the committee who just hired Patterson and is now working on hiring our new coach. The new President will likely be football friendly.

This is what I think for what its worth. Saban does NOT like disruption.Saban was caught in a bar fight with Mack Browns stubborness and Brown's dragging out his retirement.also the press daily hastle about the Texas position as well as his players asking him daily if he was coming back. He had a bowl game ahead with a question mark over MB retiring. So what do you do to get out of the lime light. You sign an extension without a buyout provision. MB retires. Saban plays his bowl game and keeps his players head in the game.

There is a dead period for recruiting during this period. Texas could wait until after Alabama's Bowl game. Saban then has a change of heart and signs with Texas. Kirby Smart takes the Alabama HC. Saban is now dealing with Patterson and Powers has lost alot of his power in dealing with a new coach.Saban is in line to probably triple what he gets at Alabama with the oil deals awaiting him if he signs with Texas, It may not happen but you never know.
