*****SUPER REGIONAL GAME THREAD - TEXAS vs. #8 STANFORD*****

4 walks in 3 innings.  Too many pitches for Johnson.  Not looking good early.
It doesn't seem like his stuff is bad today but I think they have had a very good hitting approach so far. He usually gets a lot of swings and misses on his slider or splitter and they aren't chasing it.

Trying to get too cute in some cases is causing issues.

Might be. He certainly isn't throwing many balls in the zone that they are missing. Trying to get them to chase out of the zone and it isn't working today.

Cardinals are hitting Johnson.  Horns are not touching Stanford's pitcher.  Hope that changes quick.

A lead off single and a walk but LBJ strands them with two fly outs to the warning track and a hard hit ball. All 3 of those outs were on some pretty solid contact.

Pitch count is over 60 already. LBJ needs to adjust and work some quick innings here.

End of 3, Stanford 1-0

Texas rallies for 2 in top of 4th. 2-1 Texas
I take credit for the confusion. I said end of 3rd earlier but Texas is the home team.

They went up 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd on a liner by Daly, Triple by Jared Thomas and a sac fly from Dylan Campbell.

Stanford rallies back and gets a run to tie it at 2. LBJ has already thrown over 80 pitches in 4 innings of work.

A 1 out double for Stanford, followed by a nice FC play by Daly to get the lead runner for the 2nd out.

With 2 outs Tommy Troy, future MLB 1st round pick, rips a double to the wall that scores the runner from 1st.

Mid 4th tied 2-2

Curious to see how many innings these starters can go today. LBJ has already been worked hard today. Maybe 2 more innings if they are pretty quick.

The Stanford pitcher threw 180 pitches last Friday and Monday combined. His pitch count is at 48 to start the bottom of 4th.

Kennedy with another lucky hit. Pitcher knocks it down on a ground ball up the middle but it gets away from him and there is no play.

3 strike outs otherwise. End 4 2-2

LBJ done at 97 pitches, 3-2 Stanford. 1 out 1 on in comes Travis Stehle. Need him to shut em down for few innings.

2 run bomb off of Stehle, and then get out of inning. After top of the 5th Stanford 5 Texas 2

They are playing much better ball right now in all phases. We are fortunate to be this close still.

Let's get this starting pitcher out of there and make their bullpen do some work.

Agreed this pitcher has been pretty good. He is over 70 pitches. Need to get to him a bit and make him make some pitches

Stehle gets a strike out to strand 2 runners after back to back 2 out singles. Mid 6th, 5-2 Stanford

Thru 6 it is 5-2 Stanford. Their pitcher is now at 100 pitches so we shall see how long he goes. Porter Brown got a double and Kennedy gave that last pitch a ride but was caught. Need to stay in this game and try to take it late again

No runs but they did make the pitcher work and drive up that pitch count.

We may see him again in the 7th but I can't imagine he can keep going much longer.

After two quick outs, two walks by Stehle in full counts. Future 1st rd pick Tommy Troy at the plate. Stehle gets the strikeout looking for end the threat.

Stretch time and its 5-2 Stanford.
