I think this is totally ridiculous but Lambert is a bit of an expansion guru.

Would Texas hire an Aggy coach? HELL NAW.

That is quite true.. And in JM's defense, if he should have any, the culture at A&M allows him to run around and be disrespectful. So they created their monster.

Lambert LOVES to throw shit against the wall and see what sticks. I don't really believe that he's nearly as well connected as he makes out to be. I may be wrong.

I have no problem with this, in fact I think an African American coach is just what the doctor ordered. I know Sumlin would recruit at a beyond elite level, bring in only the best assistants and hold them accountable, and would be extremely comfortable yet realistic with the LHN mess.

My primary concern with Sumlin is how long would he stay? Youd have to make the buy out MASSIVE to prevent him from jumping ship to the NFL.

As it pertains to The Dude...Im kinda on the fence with you UTK.....

Here I go again being doubting Thomas. I just don't see that happening. I think KS's next stop is the NFL and UT would be a lateral move to him.

Gentleman,

What is the fascination with Sumlin? I honest to god don't get it. Last years success had literally nothing to do with his recruiting... He didn't bring one of those players in. Season two, his defense blows, hard. The only magic from his O is that being create by Johnny FB. They raked in the recruits after last season due to that teams success. Don't we want to see what he can do without JF before crowning him? I know about his success in Houston but the division has to be taken into account there as well as the stellar college qb he had in Keenum.

I just think he is way way way over hyped for a guy who's success is majorly attributed to one amazing college player, that he can even control in the least. I don't buy the "nobody can control JF." The right coach can and would. I think Sumlin sees manziel as his meal ticket and the kid could probably commit murder and Sumlin would keep him playing... Manziel is the complete key to Sumlins success, in my opinion. I just don't like him at all for the position, don't think he's proven much. Again, just my personal opinion...

Is there something I am not seeing? Legitimately, if I am, fill me in.

I mean there were two major changes in the move to the SEC... Manziel and Sumlin. I watched most of A&Ms games last year and it was JF's god given ability and improvisation that won many of those games... Neither of which is coached. To me it's a case of a coach getting lucky with a prick phenom that can make things happen consistently. I dislike most about JF but the kid is ridiculous... Enough to make any coach look good.

You don't hire Sumlin exclusively for X's and O's, but in that aspect he is more than capable. Sumlin is an excellent CEO, but one who actually coaches on the field. He will seek out and hire the best assistants, and he has the ability to connect with the gamut of recruits.

Being coach at Texas is far more than just an X"s and O's job, and it is one Sumlin could do well.

I definitely see your point and agree. He walked into a perfect storm last year at aggie. A possibly once in a lifetime talent in Manziel and a O line full of future NFL draft picks. I don't think he can keep it up after Manziel leaves. I also don't want any part of him at Texas.

Besides, his next stop will be in the NFL more than likely and that'll be a failure as well.

With all do total and complete respect, I disagree. Atleast I disagree until I can see him minus Manziel. I also believe his handling of Manziel by essentially pretending like it wasn't happening is not a positive foreshadowing moment...

What is is that makes you believe he is a great CEO? What is it that makes you believe that he is solid on the X's and O's side as well? If you watch most of their games from the last 2 years, without Manziels ability they lose WAY more games. Then are we talking about him? Still looking for some clarity on his appeal.

Perfect storm is putting it mildly... The guy could not have inherited a better situation. Not in a million years. But with that OLine leaving, and the D leaving, and likely Manziel leaving after this year... He is going have to cash in on this and go to the NFL NOW, cause when he loses Manziel and the new car smell of a&m in the SEC wears off, he's screwed. Luckily for him they were able to parlay last years success into a great recruiting class... I think we'll find out what he's about when they come to play and be coached but I think he'll be long gone by then.

Sumlin wants out of A&M. I expect him to go to the NFL or go to an organization such as USC.

He has managed to survive Manziel, he has his team winning, and he is going great in recruiting to an absolute crap hole to live in. I'd say he's doing pretty good.

Ive been on both sides of this debate, but the had a hand in the development of some pretty decent quarterbacks going back to his OU days. I will admit I point to his sub 500 year when he did not have a stud QB, but at a place like Texas he should have a good QB every year.

I'll also throw this out there: Many think Mack Brown is/was an excellent football coach, but look at his record without a stud QB...he's a 5-9 win a year coach.

Good discussion on both sides of the Sumlin debate. Assuming we will have a coaching search after this season(please God!) who would you consider to be our next coach? give at least top 3 candidates that should at least be interviewed. Lets assume Saban is off the table for this discussion.

Charlie Strong -great O mind and seems like he would do well with LHN. Needs a good DC which he can get at Tx, never led a big time program, HC for only 3-4 years. Rumors out of Sec country was he didnt get offered a couple of HC jobs there bc he is obviously Black and has a white wife, which some schools apparently frowned upon. Good young coach, could be around a while.

Art Briles - another great O mind, amazing ties to our state. I think he will win the B12 this year with of the of best Offenses and doing it at a place like Bu. Like Charlie, he has only drive a used car, give him the keys to a new lamborghini/ferrari/etc and i think he can do wonders. Also needs a better DC that he can get at Tx. Proven he can win at UH and Bu. I know some of you will have issues with him bc of some comments but i think its a bit petty, if he can come and make us title contender, who care about some small comments made 5 yrs ago. He is 58 but you cant make an age argument against Briles if you want Saban.

Sumlin - he has a lot of times to this state and is a proven winner at UH and Aggieland. He needs a better DC also. Yes, NFL might come calling so we need to know if he will be here for at least 5+ years(large buyout). Yes, he needs JM to do well but all coaches need good players. What has he done with good players, win, something we have not.

Others that we could consider:Morris, Muschamp

@TheContractor

Charlie Strong is a defensive guy by trade, not offensive. Good list though. They've all been mentioned.
