Interested to see the $$$ and buyout. Coaching contracts are basically useless now days. Ags are all creaming themselves but he could still easily dump them.

I posted a thread of my own that I will delete because I missed this one.
It certainly appears as though USC is going to stick with Orgeron though. No way Sumlin stays in CS if that job is actually available. Still think he could leave for the NFL (Texans maybe) if they look his way.
Sumlin has certainly done a great job parlaying players other coaches left him into success. And he has capitalized on that in order to get better jobs and raises. But we will see next year what he's going to do without JFF, Evans and Sherm's o-line recruits. A team that might only win 8 games this year WITH all those guys. If he can get to 8 wins next season he will probably deserve another raise, but instead they'll probably be trying to run him out of town.

Sumlin had them 3rd in their division last year and 4th this year. From the aggy perspective, extrapolate those results and it screams "contract extention" in a way not seen since the heady days of Francionne or Sherman.
In all reality, they are trying to put together money to pay a $450 mil stadium invoice. Stability is what they need, championships come second. Sumlin has engaged their fanbase. He has them on track to win bowl games in three consecutive years for the first time in the history of the program and if they win tonight, back to back 10+ win seasons for (I think) the second or third time in program history.
When you have a coach who is rewriting your program's record books, lock him in. Even if no other program is willing to make the same commitment.

That is something I look forward to find out. Everywhere he has been, he has coached and won with others recruits. We know he can recruit highly regarded players, but so can Mack, but can he evaluate players? I'm not trying to downgrade him or his coaching abilities, it's just interesting that he has never been around one place to really develop the players he bring in.
I don't know if Sumlin will be HC at A&M when the 2014 season starts. To many opportunities for him. I think this is more a business decision more than anything. Bigger buyout benefits A&M and Sumlin will probably get some sort of bonus by signing it. If Saban leaves for Texas, Alabama suddenly become available. Kirby Smart might be the frontrunner, but Sumlin would make a lot of sense. USC, Florida and Georgia are three other programs who, by name, are bigger than A&M. All three are, or could possibly be, without a head coach by february. Then you have the NFL who probably will give him a call or three.
Sumlin doesn't scare me. He will have great offenses but his defenses have always sucked. Fedora took him to school with an inferior team 2 years ago. And as for his so called great recruiting. Let's see how he does when Texas is winning. I would have been more worried had he gone to USC and Briles moved into his spot at Aggy.

No insider information, but he was said to be USC's runaway choice and now there is so much pushback from former USC coaches, players and alums to keep Orgeron that I think he read the tea leaves and decided to get a raise out of the rumors.
A&M isn't out of the woods yet because there's always a chance that an NFL job comes sniffing around, but I think this solidifies Sumlin at A&M in regards to any other college job. Personally I was worried that they would lose Sumlin and then go out and grab Chad Morris, who I think WOULD definitely be a lifer there because of his ties to the school and state.

Its not such a big deal IF we dump Mack Brown and get a better coach/recruiter. Sumlin has raised (or lucked into) some elite talent other than his 5-7 season when he was arse out at the position. If he stays, lets see how he raises the kids hes getting.

If I'm Morris I'm pounding the pavement as it pertains to the Texas job. I'm doing whatever I can to get my name out there. It's probably a long shot, but if Saban says no and the search starts over I'd want to be the guy who's been expressing the most interest.
I think Morris would work perfect with a job in the Texas area. If Stoops were to leave OU would be smart to look his way. Had Briles left, that job would have been a good one for him if they hadn't promoted Montgomery.
In my opinion, Morris is basically Gus Malzahn. Both are high school coaches who have worked their way through the ranks as college assistants and you can see the success that Malzahn has had as a HC at both Arkansas State and now Auburn. It's no guarantee that Morris would have the same success, but I think he would have a chance to be really good in the right situation. The Texas job is probably too big for him as a first HC stop, but we could do much worse.

I'm not convinced that Morris is the top OC out there, much less a top candidate for a major HC job. Yes, he has high powered offenses, but against the top teams he seems to have some kind of mental block and his guys just don't seem to produce.
