I think it's less about Hurt and more about waiting to speak to his President and his players face to face..Twitter is a wonderful thing, but it also is a race to be first...we all see what happens what it's about being first rather than being right..

you must be correct.

What exactly has been a train wreck about the UT HC search?

Angst and insider information on message boards doesn't always equal the reality of what happened.

As far as the Facebook post that was effing funny. If he was a cheater though I hope he is not coming to UT and currently you have no evidence that he is.

What is the big deal with what Hurrt said? I don't want my coaches being afraid of rivals. If anything, I would much rather them be jerks about a rival than a mealy mouthed scaredy cat.

Funny coming from a Domer. Notre Dame's "resume-gate" debacle with O'leary still tops all coaching hire snafu's. Hell, the hire was finalized and the press conference already occurred.

One thing for sure is guys like "Friend of Bevo" are hardly doing their university any favors. All this constant leaks of what turns out to be disinformation, has made my university look like no one wants this job. If I sound bitter, that's putting it mildly.

Yes it was the most embarrassing, infuriating thing ever. O'Leary would have been a great coach, I think.

ND canned him 4 days later. We could not hire a coach with questionable ethics and poor decision making - even if it was 2 decades ago when he fudged his resume.

It changed the way college hiring committees scrutinized potential hires...

UT surly will not overlook Hurtt's providing benefits to recruits at Miami, and how he lied to investigators (10.1 unethical conduct rule violation). Also how he is banned from any recruiting activity through the spring of 2014.

Strong will have to choose UT over Hurtt...

The amount of trial balloons that UT used. That's what I was alluding.

The hire is what it is. Congrats again.

Agreed, the BMDs, like Mack, want to be bigger than the university. They are the reason, IMO, that Texas isnt the top coaching job in the country. Too much BS on a daily basis.

+1

If this is true, then the irony is staggeringly thick.

In light of Powers sticking his nose into this process, usurping at least part of the Athletic Director's powers, and thwarting any deal with Saban.

I got suckered into believing everything I was reading and hearing that aligned with the outcome I wanted. I've learned my lesson as this led to me posting info yesterday that was complete horses**t.

I'm not buying the insider line that this is all one big train wreck as this is their way of covering for the fact that they got it all terribly wrong.

Yep it's called confirmation bias

Irish, is it possible the train wreck was a message board phenomenon? The actual process may have been executed well. If you were in the room and have different info, please share it.

you're dead on.

influenced by the message boards - which was picked up by mainstream media on occasion.

Of course, some bold statements were made by some big players on here. And groupthink made the blinders come on perhaps.

To be fair - UT may have done this by the book in perfect manner. Then you have poor journalism or the "I want to be the first" crowd throwing stories out in Oklahoma or Fort Worth and it's picked up by the big boys.

A few bad apples spoil the bunch...

Great point. I mean no disrespect by my posts.

I clearly think that is a possibility. In the age of social media and people wanting credit of being the first person to report X happened, there is a lot of misinformation. We dont know all the coaches that were interviewed or considered and what, if any, coaches told us "no."

We know a Texas BMD leaked CS to the media last night.
