"El Mahico", posted at 2am that:

Patterson pushed in his interview for A&M vs UT to restart, and this is supposed to be announced before the bowl game. Ill leave the rest to you insider types but:

We'd have to cancel some series to make room for them, and I did read where some of you are seeing some smoke about "something" being announced at the presser this morning.

UT and aggie need to play. Been part of football in the State of Texas for too many years to simply stop and never play again. And while there is nothing worse than losing to aggie, we should not be afraid to play them. UT will not be in a slump forever.

That will suck. Granted we do need to upgrade our Thanksgiving game but I was thinking more along the lines if Notre Dame or something.

It was just a matter of time before it happened. I would have been fine with it either way but I think the early success they had in the SEC took UT by surprise and maybe had us reconsider the lasting effects of canceling the series. In the end it is good for college football for that game to be played.

This needs to happen. What is everyone scared of?
Scared has nothing to do with it for me. I just don't see how this helps us that much. In recruiting, I feel something like this will help them far more than us. They currently have no rivalry game and can't point to any special annual matchup that they can call historic that everyone looks forward to every year. We already have that.

Personally, I hope this happens. I hate the aggys and nothing beat crushing little brother's dreams on thanksgiving each year.

But like the above poster said, it will be good for college football for this game to happen. Thanksgiving is always one of the best football weeks of the year and the lack of the UT - aggy game was felt.

I am on board for this happening again. It should never have been canceled. Thanksgiving weekend is not the same without this game. How many of you were excited about playing TCU last year, or Texas Tech this year? I know I wasn't. I hope we schedule this game for many years to come.

Not scared but Aggy pulled out of this arrangement and left the conf. just dont see the need to play them again

So Patterson's number one priority is restarting a football series with aggy???? Why is playing the pathetic aggy cult even a consideration for the great University of Texas????? aggy provided UT with the perfect excuse to divest itself of any association with freak show that is aggy and the new leader of the UT athletic department is chomping at the bit to restart it in the name of a "rivalry" that was always one sided and never beneficial to UT???? THERE IS EXACTLY ZERO UPSIDE IN UT PLAYING aggy!! If UT beats them, so what? A win over aggy has ZERO national prestige value for UT. If UT loses to them it is humiliating, diminishes UT's national prestige value and throws aggy a lifeline from its epic sec mistake that is already manifesting itself on the field.

NOBODY OUTSIDE OF aggy AND A FEW MYOPIC UT FANS CARES ANYTHING ABOUT UT PLAYING aggy. It was never a major rivalry game that attracted national interest because it was almost never a game that decided anything but "bragging rights" in Texas. What sane person really cares about bragging rights over a freak show like aggy???? Patterson should be announcing a new rivalry series with major football programs such as ND, tOSU, Bama, FSU, USC, LSU, etc, not groveling to reconnect with aggy. Winning over major schools adds to UT's prestige and losing is not humiliating and does not lose national prestige value. So much for Patterson having any clue about maximizing the value of the UT brand.

This is the dumbest idea imaginable and sends a very clear message that the new leadership at Bellmont is even more clueless than Dodds. GREAT!!!

Would love it. I really miss that game. College football is all about rivalries and this one needs to come back.

I am ok if never playing a&m again IF we can get a national power such as a ND to play us. We just need a rivalry game for Thanksgiving and Tech and TCU ain't it! If that is as good as it gets, then bring aggie back. Sure do NOT want to move the ou game!

They bravely ran away. I'd rather never play them.

But here is my answer for the "fear" comments. At the moment, and not necessarily for very long, playing aggy is very much to their advantage. They are in the SEC and have a young, black, dynamic coach. We are in the awful Big 12 and our coach is old and has lost not only his feel for the game but his charm in the living rooms. Playing them now just gives them another marquee game on their schedule that would excite recruits. I imagine aggy coaches would be telling recruits to take a look at the schedule. We play Texas, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and then a mix of Florida, Georgia ,etc. All marquee games. They play us and OU and if you come here you'll play in that game anyway. So just OU.

I get that it's simplified but I would really like to iron some things out before we renew that series.

I'd love to see the game started back up as soon as next year but it's true, it doesn't really benefit us right now. Can Tech or TCU hold up to a Lone Star Showdown on Thanksgiving? No. But quite frankly they'll do until we're in a position fitting of that rivalry. A&M already benefits in the recruiting department because of their schedule against top collegiate opponents. If we were to schedule them on Thanksgiving, as Brasky already stated, we'd be giving them one more powerhouse to add to their schedule. Currently, we benefit from having a nationally praised rivalry with Oklahoma, whereas A&M lost their only real rival when they left for the SEC. Sure they can try and replace UT with LSU but from what I've gathered, LSU doesn't take A&M very seriously right now.

In short, Thanksgiving won't be the same again until Texas and A&M are playing each other. But the time for that isn't now.

It's gotta happen, IMO. You've got Alabama vs Auburn, Florida vs Florida State, Georgia vs George Tech, etc., etc. Historic in-state rivalries might not always be world-beater games, but they draw a ton of smack-talking fans and are good for the sport in the long run.

Personally, I'm getting over their fleeing-the-conference insult and would enjoy kicking some Aggie ass again.

Hook 'em.
