Stoops to Florida?

I'm thinking it's going to happen this time or at least that he'd take the job if offered.  I wouldn't offer him if I were them.  Stoops to me seems to be a little bit of the old guard that I wouldn't think can generate the same type of enthusiasm as the up and comers.  Don't get me wrong, the guy is a great football coach, it's just that I think his best days are behind him.  I do think he'd take it though as he no longer seems to be as appreciated in Norman and I think their fans are ready for a fresh start after 16 years.

I remember thinking after 2000 that OU was going to have 3 or 4 natty's under Stoops.  Glad I was wrong!

Would a move like this make Texas fans happy?  Or would you rather play against a Stoops-coached Sooner team for a handful of years more?

ou didn't hire very well between Switzer and Stoops.  Then again, we missed on a few between Akers and Brown, so I suppose catching lightening in a bottle is not a common occurrence.  That said, I'd be happy playing ol' Bobby's boys for a few more years.  I think Stoops/Strong matchup will be a good one for the good guys.

5 years ago, i would have been delirious for stoops to leave. now, don't really care. i think strong is about to go on a run against ou whther he's there or not.

joeywa beat me to it. the odds of them hiring a coach that will match his success is not very good. hey, sumlin was OC there once, right ?

Stoops to the $ec after all these years of bitching about them? Yea, he'll be well received by the other fans!

Much like STP, I'm not so sure that Stoops leaving would really benefit the Horns. I mean we beat his "great" team last year and almost beat his "great" team this year. That was done with teams that were either tanking or just finding their footing. What kind of fight do we really expect them to put up when Texas has completely fulfilled Strong's vision? Stoops has seemed to lose touch a little bit over the past few years, so maybe it would actually benefit us if he remained in Norman for the next few years.

On the other hand, Stoops leaving Oklahoma would most certainly cause a rift in recruiting for them. I personally think that recruiting has never been more vital for Texas than it is right now, so a big name leaving our biggest rival could and would benefit us. Either way, I think Texas is silently benefiting from the uncertainty and unease in Norman. Stoops decision to stay or leave will likely have a minor effect on our program, in a positive way.

It's in UT's best interest for Stoops to stay. They may hire an up and comer great coach which we don't want. If they end up hiring a terrible coach such as Mike Stoops that could hurt the strength of the Big 12 and hurt UT's strength of schedule.

I've read Stoops doesn't want to go to Florida since he would have to play his brother Mark. So, if he takes the job then he must hate his brother.

For selfish reasons I'd love for him to stay.  He can leave once he has an overall losing record versus Texas, courtesy of Charlie F Strong.

i do not give a flip who is coaching at other schools.
Disagree.  I would have agreed 5 years ago.  The thing is, this mentality has actually hurt us.  If OU does move on we should actually want them to get a good coach, a damn good coach in fact.  It's the only rivalry we have left with any historic significance and the marquee game on  our schedule.  The rivalry needs to be fierce with playoff implications or both programs will suffer.

100% correct. There are only two schools the selection committee gives a rat's butt about in the Big 12. Its obvious from how they have treated TCU and Baylor. If Texas and OU aren't strong the Big 12 is no more relevant than Conference USA. If the only losses Texas and OU had were to TCU and Baylor; the committee couldn't disregard the Frogs and Bears like they have in favor of SEC teams without some major furrowing of brows.

sorry. i'd rather have john blake back and they go 3-9. screw ou.

who is FSU's rival of 'historic significance'? it's miami if there is one and they've sucked for years. Ohio State's is michigan, who has also sucked for years. One or both of these teams, from conferences worse than the Big 12, will be in the playoffs.

if we take care of OUR business, we'll be fine.

The biggest reason agricultural is an attraction is that they can point to marquee games on their schedule.  This is great for kids who want to play at an elite level and it's great for fans who enjoy hard fought football.  I get your point but I'd way rather line up with Charlie Strong against a badass OU team and go toe to toe than to walk over a John Blake hapless bunch.
