You may hate his arrogance, but you have to admire his acumen.

This is the mans fourth homerun.

1.  Forced Mack Brown out

2.  Hired Charlie Strong

3. Forced Rick Barnes out

4. Hired Shaka Smart

Peripherals

Polled Longhorn fans about stadium experience

Made stadium changes per responses

Pushing for global recognition

Pushing for new BB arena

Pushing to get Austins feet in the fire

Pushing for new football facilities

Finally - are you ready for this?

Becoming more involved in the Big 12, conference realignment and UT's future in a super conference

And, dammit, I actively dislike him as a person.

AD Steve Patterson catches a lot of criticism on this site. Maybe it's somewhat deserved, maybe not.

I'm reminded of the 60s tv series "Get Smart." Well..he did. Way to go, Steve, great job.

Nobody thinks he was behind forcing Mack out. And since the Erwin center is destined for the wrecking ball, he has no choice but to push for a new hoops arena. No credit for either of those.

I think his rollout of 'loyalty points' and his new ticket policy was a clusterfvck.

But yes, he did get the Barnes deal done and likely hired the best available coach. So credit for that. And I like Charlie but his grade is incomplete so far. But I'm hopeful

So like most administrators, some good, some not.

He was his job and it was one of the data points for hiring him.  You can't have it both ways.  You can't give him flack for the clumsy way it went down and then say he wasn't behind it.

Nobody seems to understand that the ticket increases were a mandate HANDED DOWN TO HIM TO IMPLEMENT.

I disagree.  I want more from a coach than just his won/loss record.  I can do without a Barry Switzer.  And I have been mightily impressed with Charlie Strong.

So like most administrators, some good, some not.

Truthfully now - what has been his bad?  You already know now that he wasn't behind the ticket increases. That he is a jerk?  yeah, I'll agree to that.  But Deloss Dodds says hi.
Once again, I am no apologist for SP's bad behavior.  I don't like him.

But this doesn't blind me to his accomplishments either.  And he has them in spades.

You will note that I have taken the same tack with Tyrone Swoopes.  He played abysmally last year and he played great as well.  I will condemn him for his faults, but I won't let his faults blind me to his assets either.

I believe his true story is yet to be written but I won't go into anymore discussion on this - it has already been beaten to death.

I guess what I strive for is fairness.  I try to not let myself get trapped into agendas.

EDIT:  I'll tell you who he has pissed off - and he has done it where ever he has been.  The media.  He dislikes and distrusts the media and has said it many times - especially when he was in Houston.  And the feeling is mutual.

You will note that, on both coaching hires, there has been very little leakage from Bellmont - if any.  And the media went into a frenzy both times.  He has blocked their bread and butter and that is unforgivable.  They will continually attack him and his arrogance overcomes his intelligence in this regard.  He won't give in to them and give them even some crumbs..

The Mack firing was clunky on everyone's part. But no, I don't think SP gets credit for making a bold decision. It appears it wasn't his.

I don't want Switzer either. To steal from cheese, that's a strawman. We all want more from a coach but Charlie is 6-7 to this point. He could be Ghandi but it's a w-l bidness. Again I'm hopeful.

I don't believe he's just a puppet on ticket policy. Sure it had to be signed off on but I don't think he was just following orders.

Oh no, I don't mean it to sound like he made the decision.  It was made before he was hired.  He was, however, given the dirty work of doing it.  Nobody else, including Luck, wanted anything to do with it.

My point with the ticket policy was that wasn't his decision.  that was, also, made before he was hired.  Everyone knew it would be an unpopular move - just like they did with the force out of Mack.  Patterson had that dropped in his lap as well.

My point is, even though he is an unadulterated jerk, he isn't to blame for everything.  Even though I would like to. :)

My Vulcan sources assure me he did not really hire Strong.
Good grief. You can't let that go, can you? Some people know of things that you don't and you act like your manhood is threatened.
Do we have an "ignore" feature on this site? I'd rather not run into this jackass again.

No. 1986 grad of Rice, 1989 grad of UT. As I can tell you don't read, you must not know Greek mythology. I'm an analyst with the DOD, employed by a top 5 defense contractor. In my spare time I rock climb, cook and drive a very fast car. I have two dogs and a cat whose critical thinking abilities make you look like a brain damaged aggy.

I guess we can all give Patterson a round of applause for this hire, but I still wonder why he'd tell Barnes "he'd be back" after that 1st Round loss to Butler. Unless Barnes is lying and nothing about his history suggests he would fabricate that conversation with Patterson. Not cool

But, we got our man to lead Texas Hoops. Let the HAVOC begin!

Well said!

LOL!  I know I like you.  Who wouldn't like anyone this eloquent?  Besides, you like dogs and cats.

Don't know him but not a popularity contest (well it sorta is but you get my point)

At the end of the day he does in fact get credit for making needed changes (which kills me to type about Mack but it's true). . .to try to not give him credit when it was clear DeLoss wasn't going to do his job is pure bullshit. . .

I know the usual suspects will try to spin things but the reality is Strong & Smart are really good hires. . . .
