Sterlin Gilbert turns down Texas (or not?) UPDATED

A palace coup is afoot. All hands on deck. We will lock all doors and go room to room. Overcome and hold any who attempt to flee. If found, arrest the insurgents. There will be a trial on sight once the suspects are in custody. If found guilty, all those responsible will be banned from the kingdom FOREVER.

Well,  I posted earlier why would an OC even want this job due to it possibly being just a one year gig.  I am wondering if the break down was not his guaranteed money but any assistants that he might have wanted to hire.  I don't blame him just stay where you are for another year and look at your options then or some other college program is now going to fly in and grab him.

If Mike Perrin was not at his desk today (of all fking days), he should be fired. I'm not kidding either. Disgraceful.

                                                                                                               DAMN!!!!

Why would Mike be gone, maybe because everyone thought it was a done deal. Including him.

Now if he stays gone, I'd be concerned. But if you take off thinking something is in the bag, like we thought. And get this shit pulled on you, now we see what he's made of.

If he is still in NYC tomorrow, then I call for his throat.

Per Chip....

The verbal agreement was 3 years guaranteed for 650k - 750k, which Gilbert was happy with

But when we sent the contract it was only for 2 years.

I disagree.  Use Occam's Razor.

Who has an interest in not signing the best OC possible at this point in time?  Strong or BMDs?

Who had an interest in reporting the offer for Cumbie of 1.2 million+?  Strong or BMDs?

If we were going to pay Cumbie 2.4 million for 2 years guaranteed, who was going to tank Gilbert at 1.95 million for 3 years guaranteed?  Even if Strong is let go at the end of year 1, the eventual payout is the same.  Doubtful that Strong would kill the deal over this.  BMDs?  Hmmm

Who has an interest in making sure there's no OC for the biggest recruiting weekend of the year?   Strong or the BMDs?

Where did the rumor of Strong's unprofessionalism come from?  Have we heard any hint of this from his stints at Louisville, Florida, South Carolina?  Suddenly he's less professional than someone coming out of Mike Leach's coaching tree?  There's cultural shock in coaching?  Give me a f'ing break.  Does Strong break down plays in an unprofessional manner?  I guess his concussion protocol doesn't include throwing a kid in a shed.

The only thing adding up is that we don't want to pay Strong 15 million to leave so we'd rather drive him out.  Because I can't see someone deliberately sabotaging his career in this way.

And yes, Gilbert could pass up this offer to stay at Tulsa since he's probably planning on a big payday next year.  A lot of people are failing to incorporate the opportunity costs if Gilbert jumps ship next year and only doing a straight calculation of his time at Tulsa.

YMMV I guess....
I won't argue that all the things you say are certainly what appears to be happening. And they are the easiest conclusions to reach. Almost too easy. The question I'm asking is would the BMD's really be willing to embarrass the University like this? I'm having a hard time believing they would. But I could be wrong.

I just think there is something beneath the surface of all this that we are not privy to.

Is the Heisman ceremony tomorrow?

We just got rejected by the girl that we all knew was going to grow up to be hot but at this given moment is not.

How the hell do we get rejected by anything associated with Tulsa. I have thrown that "We are Texas" bullshit out of my mind for awhile, but Tulsa?

How the hell is the next step not being put out there by someone, unless ALL Texas recruiting services are too ashamed to make a move after two screw ups.

Per Chip:

"Gilbert had a great interview with Strong on Wednesday and left feeling good about things while also under the impression he'd be getting a three-year guaranteed contract worth between $650,000 and $750,000 per year once the job. But then Gilbert was ultimately offered a two-year guaranteed contract worth $650,000 per year.

The confusion over the contract terms, among other things, caused Gilbert to turn down the job"

Per Bobby Burton,

Charlie had the authority to offer 3 years and led Gilbert to believe that's what he was offering. But that he only offered him 2 years.

OB's has their take as well. And I'm sure that IT does also.

Don't know who to believe at this point?

With all this going on, an AD should be right there on the spot till the fat lady sings,it's signed, sealed and delivered. That's his job. Now look at the mess. All this after he was made permanent AD too.

Stay tuned, they're feeling the heat and attempting to rectify the situation.
Rectify? This shit better be fixed or whoever the hell is at that table deserves to be let go. When you sit at the head of the table, you better have the balls to go against the grain and fire Strong or give him what he wants. If you are going to be deceitful to save face with your colleagues then GTFO you don't deserve to be at the damn table in the first place.
