Given how Texas has played against the Cyclones over the past several years now, this matchup terrifies me. The Children of the Corn already give Texas their best shot regardless of year and no matter if they are at home or on the road, so nothing is really a given.
Despite a 1-5 record and a season opening loss to Northern Iowa, the Cyclones were in a position to win their last two games against Baylor and Oklahoma State, and showed they are capable of putting up some points. The trip of Joel Lanning, Mike Warren, and Allen Lazard have all given Texas fits in the past and they are all setup to do so again with the Texas defense struggling to stop anybody right now.
On the other side of the coin, the Cyclone defense is allowing on average 453.5 yards per game this year and is allowing 33.5 points per game. If that same ISU defense shows up in Austin on Saturday, the Texas offense should be able to have success like it has had all season on that side of the ball.
This is a game Texas SHOULD win, but they should've won it last year too and they got blanked in embarrassing fashion in Ames. There should be plenty of points on the scoreboard by the time this one is over, but I'm taking Texas to snap their losing streak and get back on track.
Score Prediction: Texas 45 – Iowa State 35

I grow tired of writing this statement, but this is a game that Texas should win. Iowa State is a less talented team on paper, but the Cyclones have been a tough out for this Texas team over the last few years. Despite all of that, I actually think Texas comes out and plays pretty well following three straight losses and questions about Charlie Strong’s job security. D’onta Foreman should be able to continue his impressive season to lead the way, while Shane Buechele lights it up in the passing game. The Texas defense will still have their moments, but they will show some improvement over a a team that hasn’t figured out how to win yet. I feel like I’m setting myself up for disappointment, but I’m going to do it.

Texas has to eventually win another football game this season, right? Well, I’d sure hope so, and I believe it’s coming this weekend against Iowa State. The Cyclones are 1-5 on the season with their only win against San Jose State. If Charlie Strong and the Longhorns lose this game, I think we could see a firing in the middle of the season. However, that’s not going to happen. Shane Buechele and the Longhorns are going to come out hungry, scoring a touchdown on their first drive of the game. No more sluggish starts for the Longhorn offense the rest of the season. The defense is going to step up as well, holding the Cyclones offense to a maximum of 25 points. Texas will mark its second blowout win of the season. D’Onta Foreman will lead the rushing game with another 100-plus yard game and 2 touchdowns while his twin brother Armanti will bring in two receiving TDs.
Score Prediction: Texas 50 - Iowa State 10

Texas lost really bad to Iowa State last year. I don't expect them to lose this season. Why? Because the Longhorns need a win badly and the players love Charlie and know they can beat Iowa State. They are well aware of Iowa State's upset ability. I expect Iowa State to do their best to contain Texas but will ultimately fail. This win won't stop the hot seat from the fans (and I say fans because key boosters and alumni have expressed their support for Charlie). However, a win will simmer down the tension.

Texas hasn't scored on Iowa State in 727 days (h/t Dan Rubenstein) but that's about to change. Pretty much the only thing I'm certain of is that Texas won't get shut out. Let's go a step farther. D'onta Foreman's going to go over 200 yards. Shane Buechele will connect for two scores over 40 yards. Texas' defense will still be butt. The spread for this game is way too large but Vegas knows more than us.

Iowa State is much better than a 1-5 record indicates. Joel Lanning has really come into his own this year, throwing 9 TD and 3 INT so far through 6 games. Last season, Lanning had 10 TD total. Mike Warren has disappointed thus far, but is always a threat. The biggest problem for the Texas defense is going to be containing Lanning, as well as stopping WR threats Allen Lazard and Trever Ryen. Lazard is your prototypical NFL WR, ranging out at about 6'4. Think of Collin Johnson when thinking of Lazard, but more mature and NFL ready. Several years ago, Quandre Diggs had tons of trouble covering Lazard. Texas is going to need it's big corners Davante Davis and Holton Hill to step up this game. Turnovers, as always, are key.
Iowa State has the 119th rushing defense in the country. D'onta Foreman leads the Big 12 in rushing. The game plan on offense seems pretty simple, right? Foreman has the potential to break out a 200-yard performance, which would mark his 7th straight game rushing 100 or more yards. Shane Buechele will continue to impress, but will also make some mistakes. That's what comes with the learning curve. After a frustrating start to the season, how will Texas respond? If Charlie Strong cannot rally the team together now, is it too late? We will find out at 6:00 on Saturday night at DKR. What we do know is that Strong's players don't want to play for anyone else. Strong can do his job, but it's now up to the players to put in the effort and sacrifice to help him stay.
