In the days after Texas upset Oklahoma, I was predicting that Texas would lose this weekend. Everything that's happened since then — the Wildcats' blowout loss to the Sooners, the announced return of Daje Johnson and Kent Perkins, the substantial money that's come in on Texas in Vegas — has made me second guess my pick. But I'm going to stick with my gut (and hope my reverse jinx from the Red River Shootout can be replicated). Charlie Strong has said for two seasons that the Longhorns don't yet know how to compete and how to win. I think the bye week came at a bad time because it gave the players more time to lose focus. K-State will try to force Jerrod Heard to beat them over the top, and considering the weather forecasts and how bad the passing game has been lately, I don't have much faith there. The Wildcats won't be able to move the ball much either, and there will probably be some points scored by the defenses or special teams to reach my predicted score.

The Longhorns own the momentum going into the game as they recently beat the Sooners, their long time rival, 24-17 two weekends ago. (They had a bye week last week). The Wildcats will be looking for revenge after their 55-0 loss to Oklahoma last weekend. With expected rain in Austin on Saturday, the game will be a muddy fight, but whoever can establish a running game will win. Texas defense finally showed what they are capable of doing against Oklahoma, and they will stop Kansas State. D’Onta Foreman will be the leading rusher in the game, and the Longhorns will beat Kansas State.

After a well placed bye week, Texas should come down from Cloud 9 and be able to be focused on Kansas State. However, Kansas State is coming off one of the worst losses in the Bill Snyder era. Bill Snyder likely had the Wildcats focused as well. So this is a toss up game. Texas must limit most mistakes to win this game. They will make some mistakes, no question. But enough to still win? Just barely.

Coming off a bye week and an amazing win it’s hard to know if the bye was beneficial of if Texas would have been better building off the momentum of a rivalry win and taking on another opponent as soon as possible. Since I like the win I think the bye week came at a great time. Texas really has run through the gauntlet since the season started. Also, the bye week gives Texas a chance to bring back some player. Daje Johnson and Kent Perkins are expected to be able to play. Lastly, it allowed the coaches to really get ready for the Purple Wizard, as well as see some dividends pay off on the recruiting trial.

In order for Texas to win the run game must be established early and often. Texas was finally able to pound a team, OU, on the ground and I really feel like the O-line is starting to gel. If Texas can pound the ball with its two capable backs (Warren should be good to go too), I like what the offense can do. It should help open up the passing game some.

On defense, the Texas D-line finally showed up. Poona Ford played like a man possessed against OU, Hughes had a great game as well. K-State is on its fourth or fifth quarterback this year, which should be a good proposition for the defense. Also look for Malik to build off another great performance against OU.

Last Thought-Kansas State and Texas have played the exact same teams in the exact same order in conference play. Look for Texas to win in what’s looking like a down year for the Wildcats.

I’m really torn here. On one hand, Kansas State has owned Texas for the last decade outside of 2013. On the other hand I feel Texas is finally starting to play with some confidence and self-awareness. Texas is certainly trending up following a big win over Oklahoma and a bye week to get healthy. I agree with Ryan that the bye is a double edged sword because it gave players 2 weeks between games when they had just seized some momentum. I can’t decide if the Oklahoma we saw in Dallas was the real Oklahoma and if the Kansas State we saw last week is the real Kansas State. This game is much more of a tossup because of the various unknowns so I have to go with the production. This is the worst of Snyder’s K-State teams we’ve seen in a long time, and they don’t do anything well except for stopping the run. Texas would like to be able to ground and pound their way to another win, and may be forced to with the weather forecasts we are seeing for this weekend. In games with inclement weather you can almost always count on something going wrong and weird plays happening. I believe Texas is more talented, I believe Texas is more confident, and I believe Texas is desperate to grab a win and start a mini run in the back half of the schedule. D’Onta Foreman will get the starters’ share of carries and excel in that role behind a healthy offensive line featuring the return of Kent Perkins. Jerrod Heard will make the plays he needs to make while carrying the offense into the red zone until he hands the reins over to Tyrone Swoopes and the 18 Wheeler package. Swoopes scores twice on a throw and a run, while the defense takes advantage of a struggling Wildcat offense. If Texas gets a lead early they will go conservative to protect it in what is likely to be torrential downpour. Daje Johnson will break a big play off in his return to the field that ices the game for Texas and allows them to extend the lead at the end.

I'll give it a go.

IMO, K-State's weakness is its QB, especially when they have the QB passing. They utilize two QBs and both have the same problem. They're not accurate. They overthrow or under throw their targets at least 1/3 of the time. So I expect some picks by the Texas secondary, perhaps one for a TD.

Texas, OTOH, can simply act like it's going to pass. In fact, if that's all they did was scramble Heard around every third play, it would replace the passing game. But we know that's not the case, just the point. Texas can win with limited passing and it will need to with the weather being like it is.

Donta Foreman – bad weather plow mule. You need a mudder when the weather gets bad. We have one. He's very good.

Texas 31

K-State 14

Mike Roach had the margin dead on. With the weather, his score pick seemed a bit high.
