Sonny Cumbie and Texas

Well at WR and RB he'll be pretty good. The WRs will be young but good John Burt,  Newsome, LoJoe, Armanti and a whole crop of really good WRs to work with in 2016 (not to mention any guys he brings along with him). They aren't as good as what he has at TCU, but they aren't terrible.

For RB he's stacked. Not just D'Onta and Warren, but Chris Johnson looked really good in the limited time we saw him. I've also heard nothing but good things about Tristan Houston (not to mention a very large possibility of Devwah Whaley).

OL and QB is where he may have second thoughts. Besides Williams and Vahe everything else is pretty unknown, and when you see unknown its the safe thing to do to assume worst case.

Ok... I'd actually like to spend more time on this, but I have a meeting now. I'll get back on this in a bit/tomorrow
Agreed. I think there's no question we have the WR and RB to run his system. Looking at the OL from the first game to last game of the year, I think we saw improvement. However, I would say there was more improvement in run blocking. The pass protection seemed more sporadic throughout the season, and definitely left more to be desired. That said, I'm assuming this system would change the blocking schemes, so who knows.

The big question is going to be QB and how well they pick up the system. Swoopes' accuracy and touch kills me, and Heard has issues throwing anything other than the deep ball. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Locksley get some some run. I'm hoping he's a high IQ guy since he's a coach's son.

I think you're full of shit and have absolutely nothing to back up this claim.
I don't need anything to back it up. It's what I believe. It is my opinion. And you can disagree with me without being full of shit.

I did not say they were right but that is what I believe has happened with Cumbie.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong tomorrow.

"it ultimately comes down to whether or not Cumbie thinks Strong is going to be around for a while" ...

They are saying the exact same thing I said. It appears Cumbie does not want to hitch his wagon to Strong. Again I hope I am wrong.

Just my opinion but he might see that next year will be a real struggle to win for the Longhorns until he can get his system and recruits fully implemented and that Charlie does not have that kinda of time.  Cumbie knows what type of players he needs for his style of offense and for some reason he has some concerns and feels he will need at least 2 years to get those type of players onto campus.  Charlie does not have two years and I am sure Cumbie senses  how weak the support beam to this structure really is.

And thats entirely reasonable - but that has nothing to do with the part of your post that I highlighted and responded to.  You can opine about what you think the college coaching community thinks about Strong all you want - but know that their is absolutely no evidence to back it up.

*Edit: My bad.

Per an anonymous source with absolutely no connections to the program:

Sonny may or may not be coming to Texas but has decided that he absolutely will not be going back to Cher...

As of this morning, I'm of the opinion that Cumbie is coming to be the OC at Texas. I know everyone is freaking out about how long its taking and I admit that its taking a lot longer than I or anyone else wanted it to take but surely if he was gonna say no, it would've been decided by now. He's got 2 programs on the hook and won't be able to continue doing that for long.

Hopefully today is the day we finally hear something, one way or the other.

Cumbie is obviously telling Texas something positive to keep them waiting for his decision.  Does anyone know where Strong is this morning?

He was in Michigan doing an in home visit with David Reese last night. No idea if he flew back into Austin last night or possibly went somewhere else.

I said SOME in the college coaching community.

And just so you know I had a great crap this morning. 😎

The jet (presumably) that took Strong to Detroit yesterday flew back to Beaumont last night (10pm), waited for an hour, and then flew to Austin (12:30am)

if he is truly a religious man, then i'm sure he is praying about this; which takes time.
