Sonny Cumbie and Texas

At this point, we're all better off using the "wait and see" approach. One minute the deal is done, the next he's telling TCU recruits he's staying. Let's be honest with ourselves and admit that Cumbie is playing this one so close to the vest that Insiders are chomping at the bits for information. Thus, we're getting a lot of contradiction. We'll see how this plays out. Hopefully we know either way by tomorrow so we can move on to recruiting or the next candidate.

Best summation of the situation that I've read.

Source tells us Gary Patterson said Cumbie is "torn."  This was followed up with "He's [Patterson] certainly given Cumbie his blessing to leave if he thinks it's right for him."

Same source also clarified the "head coach in waiting" rumor as "absolutely false - "Patterson has at least a decade left most likely."

We were told it ultimately comes down to whether or not Cumbie thinks Strong is going to be around for a while & does Texas have the players to run his system, or will it take 2 years to recruit them all?

I think what it may come down to is the fact that while everyone respects Charlie the coaching community does not have widespread admiration for him. Some of them believe he is in over his head. Cumbie is trying to decide whether he really has a future at Texas.

Now the question gets asked... Other than the qb position, do we have the players on offense for him to run his system? Staff please chime in.

So it is fair to say that this was never a done deal?

Lets see who we have coming back: Heard QB, Kia QB, Burt WR, McNeal WR, Newsome WR, Warren RB, Johnson RB not to mention several outstanding linemen and that's just the FRESHMEN on the team. If he can't coach those in his system, maybe he does need to stay at TCU cause do we really need him?

Well at WR and RB he'll be pretty good. The WRs will be young but good John Burt,  Newsome, LoJoe, Armanti and a whole crop of really good WRs to work with in 2016 (not to mention any guys he brings along with him). They aren't as good as what he has at TCU, but they aren't terrible.

For RB he's stacked. Not just D'Onta and Warren, but Chris Johnson looked really good in the limited time we saw him. I've also heard nothing but good things about Tristan Houston (not to mention a very large possibility of Devwah Whaley).

OL and QB is where he may have second thoughts. Besides Williams and Vahe everything else is pretty unknown, and when you see unknown its the safe thing to do to assume worst case.

Ok... I'd actually like to spend more time on this, but I have a meeting now. I'll get back on this in a bit/tomorrow

I think you're full of shit and have absolutely nothing to back up this claim.

i agree. pretty sad when he thinks he has a better chance at a future HC job at a school where he doesn't call plays compared a school where he does
