Sonny Cumbie and Texas

FWIW, Chip Brown -- any move on Hurtt will "likely to have to wait until the end of the NFL season"

List of visitors this weekend (I think) --

Logan, Wilbon, Whaley, Curtis and Christmas-Giles

I feel as if securing Christmas-Giles could result in a flow of recruits committing.

Christmas-Giles just got a major bump in ranking (about time, his Senior film is ridiculous) - he's in the top 425 on 247 composite now.  He's at the top of my list of must-get recruits.

I dont know much about Giles.  But just how do you guys figure hes the MJ of the 2016 class?  He is a 3 star OT with good size.

Maybe hes underrated but I doubt he is high profile like MJ.

He has the influential power equal to the best LB in country last year?  #confused

I must have missed it - but did anyone in here say that?  And Giles is a DT.  Take a look at his hudl film - its pretty entertaining.

I want Giles because I think he's an incredible talent and could step in and play at a position we desperately need help at - not bewcause he's the highest ranked player out there.

FWIW - I believe that rankings outside of the top '5 star kids' are bullshit anyways.

Maybe you did miss it.  I figured you did see it since you directly responded to Blakes comment above.

My mistake he is a DT.  I'll take Elliot long before this kid.  We have enough 3 stars.  Im shallow I want 4-5 stars.

I havent seen enough player development from these coaches to consider 3 stars a must get.

Well then again Poona was 3 star until he committed to Strong.  So yea some ranking are bullshit.

I was more curious why Blake thinks he is the MJ of this class.

Saying somebody could pull some recruits our way and saying he's the MJ of our class are two different things. I'm not proclaiming he'll have the same pull. But the kid has a lot of friends and seems to know just about everyone. Any school that grabs him, has a Charles Omenihu kind of guy to help with recruiting.

I think a Giles commitment could result in at least a  few players committing to Texas - but I'm not seeing how that equates to calling him/thinking he is Malik.  Malik completely turned around the perception of Strong's recruiting and Texas.  Giles is possibly a catalyst because he has a couple of teammates and friends that Texas is also interested.

Completely different scenarios in my mind.

Thats a good comparison - wish I had thought of it.  Giles seems to be friendly/popular with several LA kids we're interested in.

247 said the title of HC in waiting may be in play at TCU for Cumbie
That's nice. When the hell is that going to happen though? Patterson isn't leaving any time soon. And by any time soon, I mean 10+ years. That is unless a program like USC or Notre Dame came calling or things just take a catastrophic down turn at TCU. Patterson has it made at TCU and I suspect he'll milk that University for as long as he can. Cumbie would be a B5 Head Coach by leaving and proving his worth far quicker than he would by waiting for Pattersons time to end.

I referred to MJ, because he helped land us Boyd and Hill and some others.  I wasnt comparing ability of Giles to MJ.

I think landing MJ helped us in recruiting more than Charles did.

Charles was cheerleader on twitter talking to potential recruits but MJ was a statement in landing potential recruits.

Well then you referred to MJ, I didn't. That said, I stand by my comment. Charles was more than a Cheerleader. He was on visits with recruits. He was constantly texting with recruits. And he knew just about everyone. Just like Giles. The difference is, Giles has a little more pull than Omenihu.
