Ok, here is my final summation. Some will mock but who cares I love the intrigue. From what I am gathering, here are the top candidates in order of probability.
Saban
Fisher
John Harbaugh
Briles
Now explanation from the inside sources on this site:
Saban has been offered the job. He signed an extension, but has his typical NO buyout. He was actually set to take the job before signing his extension but had a requirement that Mack Brown be gone. Mack didn't retire as planned for the entire week and Saban had to sign the extension on his desk to cool the heat he was feeling. He never lost interest in the job and kept the conversation open through back channels. Now UT is OFFICIALLY looking for a coach and can approach him. He then can offically say no or take the much better offer. Texas sent the offer to him yesterday and he has until this weeknd to say yes or turn it down. He plays tomorrow and win or lose will need time with his team. The supposed offer is for 6 to 10 years at 8.5 million a year.
Jimbo Fisher just signed his new extension after rumors were spreading about his possible interest in the job. He signed for 4.1 million a year and for the FIRST time ever, has a NO buyout. His last contract had a 2 million dollar buyout. His agent and Sabans agent are the same person. Jimmy Sexton wants one of his guys because of the possible money.
Texas has given essential staff in the athletic department days off Sunday and Monday. They have also closed off conference rooms in anticipation of an NFL head coach who is coming to town. Most believe the coach is John Harbaugh. He has been vocal of the time consumption of an NFL head coach and would like to raise his younger children in a college atmoshpere. He is on record saying if the Michigan job came open he would listen. (He has family connections there) Well it hasn't, but one the top 3 jobs in the country has.
Art Briles also signed an extension with a buyout. But his buyout and current salary are nothing to UT. He is playing his game today. The T ring group like him because he is connected with the high school coaches and for what he has done with Houston and Baylor. You have to also remember his son was highly touted recruit who originally signed with UT. He started at safety as a freshman before getting hurt. He then followed his dad to Houston to finish his playing days as a WR. But there is a connection with the school.
So final analyses? It's Sabans to turn down. Then it is a toss up between Harbaugh and Fisher who are also listening. Briles is the wildcard but a real possiblilty.
You can say I am out of my mind. But everyone seems to think the only guy with an actual buyout in his new contract, (Briles) is more of a possibilty than two others who have no buyout. Why? Because of the powerhouse Saban has built at AU? (He is startting fresh with a new QB this year and the road to another NC is easier through the Big 12.) Why would Fisher leave with his Heisman Trophy QB coming back and a chance for a repeat? (Ask Kevin Sumlin how much easier it was with the Heisman Trophy QB coming back!) I think I explained Harbaughs reasons.
Well that is my final summation. So feel free to have fun at MY expense!!
Saban
Fisher
