I think at this point no one really knows what direction the coaching search is going to take. If we use the AD search as evidence we are in for a crazy ride. No one had Patterson as the guy. Not Jesus, Chip, or none of the insiders on any of the sites. Chip came in late and said Patterson has a good interview but still everyone thought it was Luck..I think any name mentioned now is pure speculation and just like the Patterson deal I bet we are all surprised who it will be in the end. A few other thoughts..

1. The job is still not officially open.

2. I am going to predict it's going to be someone no one expected

3. I think we beat Tech 31-28

4. I want us to go to a bowl in Texas. I know selfish but it makes for a easy trip.

5. I just don't think Ash plays next year.

6. Have a Happy thanksgiving.. Hook'em

Let me add this so there is no confusion. I WANT SABAN AS BAD AS ANYONE..

i kept saying since september, if you want saban you go get patterson..
Maybe, just maybe they heard from Sexton prior to Patterson being announced...

You did say that.

I agree with 1, 2, 3, and 6.

Saban wouldn't surprise me either. There's no doubt there's been major talks and it all points to him. But it is never done until to he is introduced. These things take on a life of their own.

The AD search and coaching search are different. The BMD's have been reviewing potential HC candidates for quite a while. They are all in on Saban for a reason and after careful consideration. Although there has yet to be an official search committee named yet (for there is technically not a HC vacancy yet), they know who will be on the committee, and these people are all on the same page as far as Saban. Unless things fall through at the last minute with Saban (not likely), there will be no dark horse candidate that comes on late. The reason Patterson came on late was that he was felt to represent the best chance to reel in Saban as well as clean up the mess that is the athletic department. The head coach has always been the driver of it all. Change has happened and significantly more change is coming.

McPhaul says it's 100% Saban and MBHornsFan says it'll be someone unexpected. How bout a wager between you two

Excellent post. I think that is where it stands as of today.

1. i was the very first upon this site to say OUT LOUD that i wanted steve patterson - anyone remember this....

2. although, i really have come to trust our moderators... i for one, just cannot see nick roll/tide saban, just totally disregarding all of those absolutely adoring masses... "in the land of cotton" for "old times there are not be forgotten"... look away....look away....look away longhorn nation.... from dixie land....

3. texas, shall lose to tech (are you kidding me) unless "swoopes" plays that is....

4. nfl honcho... shall be our next head coach

5. my cornbread dressing w/ shrimp (my own original recipe) shall be a "hit" again this holiday season

6. i wish david ash a speedy recovery (i wish him the very best) but please do not play again for texas....accident prone...

7. happy thanksgiving gents... be safe.

I also said I hope it's Saban. I just think there are way too many things that need to happen for it to happen. I mean if Bama plays for MNC again that is along time to wait for him..

I agree and I think it's unlikely a 62 yr old coach that has 3 of 4MNC will leave that program. It just hard to believe it would happen.

I could see many of the other possibilities from Tomlin to Gruden to Gus to Andersen to Briles or Gundy, though I doubt we poach another Big 12 coach.

So the main reason Patterson was chosen is because he gave us the best chance to land Saban? If we don't get Saban did we still make the right choice with Patterson?
