Show me where the Talent is on this team??

Any college team playing in a major conference that's forced to use a QB that ought to be playing for maybe Sam Houston State or Texas State is not going to fare well. Add the injuries (in addition to Ash) and you come up with a team that doesn't have the talent to win them all. They can win some...but not consistently against good teams.

If we had Johnny Manziel playing QB for us this year instead of Case McCoy, we would have won the Big 12 going away. OR---take the game tonight. Give us the Oregon QB and make them play with Case.....we win.

BUT---let's assume David Ash was healthy all year. We probably don't win against Okie State or Baylor or Oregon. Mack made a huge mistake when he abandoned the dual threat QB offense....a mistake that cost him his job.

The Oregon offense scored 16 points from 1 touchdown.

Texas absolutely wins if Ash starts. Would have a fighting chance if Swoopes had started.

I know it seems like defensively they haven't done so well, but I place a lot of that perception on Diaz. Take a look at this:

Oklahoma State averages about 40 points a game and is ranked 14th in points. They scored 38 against Texas. Not great, but less than their average.

Baylor averages about 56 points a game and is ranked 1st in points. Texas held them to 30. Again not great, but 26 points less than their average.

Oregon averages about 47 points a game and is ranked 3rd in points. Oregon scored 30 on Texas tonight. Keep in mind that only 16 of those points came from their offense. Had it not been for the two pick sixes, this game would have been completely different. Defense did it's job by only allowing 1 TD and for Oregon offensively.

Greg Robinson has done a great job of turning this defense around. With a full spring training, this defense could be dangerous next year. The offense on the other hand is completely inept. Other than a handful of players offensively, they are at fault for keeping us out of these games. Of course Major and MB hold most of that responsibility.

Just my two cents. Besides, how many of us were honestly expecting anything else?

It would have been nice to see Swoopes play in his comfort zone. He never got a chance to get into a flow and I think he could be really dangerous if he did. Hopefully the next coach will properly utilize our talent.

Texas has plenty of talent, what they don't have is a QB worth a shit. No matter who Texas has at WR, when Case McCoy is throwing shitty passes more times than not, your WR are going to look bad.

We keep hearing we have talent from the so-called experts, but i have never really bought into much… 3 top 20 teams, 3 blow outs. Outside of Gray/Johnson i am not sure we have a player on offense that would get any significant playing time at Oregon, Baylor, or OK state, much less be a full time starter.
As far as Defense is concerned- our Defensive backfield is atrocious overall and has been for awhile. Linebackers where do we start- hicks wasn't that great and he was our best. We have good ends, but seem to disappear from play to play/game to game.

What am i missing or forgetting about- been another long lousy season. Hopefully Patterson has a better success rate at hiring good head coaches. Outside of Brown- Dodds gets a lot of credit because of the revenues etc.. but his track record for hiring FB coaches stunk.
On offense, I think there is talent all over the field. We simply have no one who can get them the ball and a playbook so obvious that a 12 year old on an NCAA video game can tell you what's coming.

I still think this is a 10+ win team with a healthy Ash and Robinson as coordinator last January. The lack of depth exposed what's been going on with our coaching staff since the 07/08 recruiting classes.

There is a long list of teams that played in a BCS bowl games with a QB not any better than Swoopes.

The 2014 team WILL have more talent than the 98 team; that was a fun year.
