Shoemaker DE Rahssan Thornton committed to LSU

Its simply expectations.  After CS was hired I read so many articles about how great of a recruiter he was going to be at UT.  He pulled a top 10 class at the end of last year, which was looking pretty dire early on.  CS emphasizes the big guys up front, hes a defensive coach, he touts his DL and LB group as the golden boys of the defense.  I guess I expected more early commits from higher rated DL.

Its baffling how a Texas HS DL recruit wouldnt want to play for Strong.

It appears the SEC hype crap is a bigger trump card atm.

That's just it, Mack conditioned us to expect a ton of early commitments.

I'm also at a loss to explain how any defensive players in TX don't want to come here first - mind boggling. Offense? I get that because that unit hasn't proven anything yet and the jury's still out on Watson and the strategic direction.

When Shorter won the Olympic Marathon in '72, he started fast and remained at the front of the pack until he pulled off a gutsy move, took off from the pack at the 9 mile mark and was alone in front of the pack for the remainder of the race. Shorter says "hi" back at you. Shorter got out front fast and stayed out front the entire race. (And for the record, the pacing strategy in distance racing is a relatively fast start, slowing in the middle and then pushing hard at the end).

Coach Strong's HUGE victory needs to be adjusted to account for the multiple individuals who still haven't been cleared to join the team because of grades. If I remember, didn't Coach Strong have at least scholarship left over on signing day because he had no recruit to take it? Wasn't it being considered to bump Merrick up from a grey shirt to a full scholarship because of the untaken scholarship? And then there is Lampkin, Major, Clarington and probably at least one or two others I'm not thinking of. Texas needs recruits who can set foot on the field in the fall, not players who pump up a final recruiting ranking but never make it on campus.

Texas doesn't need another class like last year's. It needs a better one, especially at positions Coach Strong is extending offers for, but getting rejected by the recruits. It is precisely because he didn't land his higher picks that Coach Strong had to settle for recruiting players with high probabilities of never making it on campus. I keep waiting for the Charlie Strong era to start being impressive. So far, recruiting for the 2016 class isn't impressive. The program has a lot of room for improvement. We went through four years of crap with Mack, Strong's first year was an abomination, this year is looking like another write off. That is six years of mediocrity for the fans and another year at the earliest before the Horns even begin to be able to compete in the Big 12. We need to start seeing improvement soon.

smh, yes, it's called a kick.

In your own words "from the back of the pack." And in the same paragraph, you say he stayed at the front the entire race. Yet, you say he moved from the back of the pack at the 9 mile marker.

Shall I just turn around and hide my eyes while you make up your mind?

Of the group of Texas recruits you listed, only Lampkin won't be in Austin in the fall. The other two will be.

The class doesn't need adjusting. That's just you using false information to make a point.

At this point, I feel like you're just conducting a rabbit chase and I don't care to join in and waste that kind of time as I have already.

Believe what you want. Just don't expect me to take it seriously.

lol. Can you point out exactly where you believe I said "back of the pack?" I believe "Shorter got out front fast and stayed out front the entire race" means "front of the pack" in case that escaped you. Shorter was never in the middle or back of the pack the entire race. I know Jeff Galloway personally. Jeff was on the team with Shorter in '72. I have heard the story repatedly from someone who was there. Shorter absolutely didn't kick 17 miles from the finish to come from the back of the pack. lol. If Coach Strong wants to start his kick one third into the race, he needs to start now. Regardless of what analogy you want to make, the time is now for Coach Strong to toss aside his mid-major recruiting strategy and step up his game. Texas isn't Louisville.

As for the recruits who haven't cleared the NCAA Clearinghouse, they are Lampkin, Clarington, Major and Gilbert Johnson. Don't gve us articles from last month saying they will be on campus when they still haven't made it through the clearinghouse. My rabbit chase says they still aren't cleared to play. Texas needs more players who can be on campus and fewer players who can't get through the clearinghouse. Stepping up recruiting and not missing out on players who can make it through the clearinghouse is what the staff needs to do.

TEXAS just landed the Wilbon kid from La. . . . DT. . . they nab a 3 star, we punch right back . ..  .

My first thought was the board troll has to be pissed. . . .it must suck to self-loath the team you root for. . . .

:P

Maybe that is what has LSU truckin' to Texas, lots of Louisiana kids want to play for Coach Strong.  I still don't trust Eddie.  If those Texas boys do go to LSU, I hope they are happier than the last two.

Lol. So if I think Coach Strong should be able to recruit elite athletes its unreasonable entitlement but if I believe a UT recruiting class ranking below 50th in the nation is bullshit I'm a troll. Got it.

A losing record and getting humiliated in multiple games is not acceptable. There has to be improvement in every aspect of the program. The clowns who are willing to excuse mediocrity are part of the problem not the solution.

These threads are always repetitive with Duke. Just wait until February and he will shut up like last year.
The players don't step on the field in February. They need to get through the clearing house and be declared eligible. How can otherwise football savvy people ignore that? As it stands, there will be 80 scholarship players when fall camp starts. How is that a huge win in recruiting? Texas needs players who can be part of the team in August. If more than 10% of the recruiting class doesn't ever make it one day on campus, it isn't a recruiting success. Only recruits who get to play help the team. That should be an obvious concept.

Yea, right. The only person on this board to actually receive repetitive death threats from aggys and you say I post as an "aggie."
I hate mediocrity and I mock those who accept mediocrity as acceptable. 6-7 with repetitive humiliations is beneath mediocrity. Still not having multiple players cleared to enroll is mediocrity. A recruiting class in the 50s is mediocrity. Don't tell me what anyone is going to do. Tell me when things have improved. There are too many good programs out there to think Texas can assume the attributes of a mid-major as a strategy to ascend to the level of the elites. Embrace mediocrity all you want. It isn't the path to a championship.

RD is definitely not an aggie. His expose on aggie's History of the 12th Man and fraudulent trademark is excellent.

"A recruiting class in the 50's"? He's got a valid point IF four highly anticipated recruits don't make it through the NCAA's clearinghouse. For our sake, I hope his intel is dead wrong. Otherwise, what service ranked our 2015 class that low?

With all due respect, nobody on this board has "embraced mediocrity". We just have a little more patience. Doesn't make you wrong, just insufferable to those who see the glass as half-full.

I mock 'i don't accept mediocrity' guy as if he and he alone thought 6-7 was no good. Jeezus H, none of us think that's acceptable. Your emotions aren't unique.

You know who else knows it? C Strong. His style will either work or it won't. I don't know. You don't either TBD.

What I DO know is bitching about the failure of the 2016 recruiting class in June 2015 is a wucking faste of time and energy. Frankly so is responding to these incessant bleats.

Not true your not the only person on this board to receive repetitive death threats from aggies. I have an aggie death squad assign to kill me. They almost got me at Starbucks the other day.

As far as you hate mediocrity speech, I've read that speech from you a number of times. I almost have it memorized.

RD, if you hate mediocrity, quit posting the same tired drivel. You don't sway anyone, just bore and annoy them. Actually do some work, dig up some facts and provide an interesting premise rather than pounding away with half truths hoping that someone will agree with you.

Believe it or not, you have a reasonably intelligent audience here (unless you offend until we ignore you). It's necessary to prove your point. It will not be accepted at face value. Take my advice or leave it because I really don't care, but it is pretty solid.

And, quit repeating yourself. That doesn't help your case, not at all. This isn't 'all about you'. It's about Texas sports. Get over yourself. You sound like a 15 year old.

Out.

I like RD. He's a good guy. He's stubborn and that shows up in his posting sometimes, but it's also what makes him an outstanding researcher. Having met him in person I can say he's all Horn. He's just sometimes a glass half empty kinda guy.

I can agree to disagree with him.

I like much of his writing, but when he goes on these campaigns, it takes a toll. I had to stop reading his 'stuff' earlier. It is simply too much. I agree he is probably ok, but these campaigns become overbearing. I can simply 'ignore', and I will if that's what others want.

Hook 'em!
