While I originally agreed I believe this is no longer the case.  Call me crazy but I've bought in to Heard and believe he will win a game or two he isn't supposed to.  If that is the case I can see this team as a 7-5 type.  So far the Cal game is the only one they've lost that I didn't expect them to before the season.  It's amazing what a little QB play will do for your psyche.

Before the season started I had it like this.

Sure losses - TCU & Baylor

Probable sure losses - ND @ Oklahoma

Toss Ups - Cal, OSU, KSU, & WVA

Probable sure wins - IAST, Tech

Sure wins - Rice & Kansas

In my mind, we had to win all of the toss up games to go 8-4, 3 of them to go 7-5, or split them to go 6-6. 

3 games into the season, I now have Tech as a toss up game. 

But I'm also not convinced that OSU and KSU are quite as good as advertised. For OSU it's a matter of whether or not they have played down to their competition. If they have indeed played down to their competition, then it's still a toss up game. But if it's really who they are, then I give a slight edge to Texas. 

To get to 7-5 we now have to win the rest of the toss up games. But I'm afraid that won't happen unless our defense gets better as the season goes along. If it doesn't, then we're looking at 6-6, or worse.

I think Heard gives this team the ability to win games that they had no chance of.  If he can play anywhere close to the level he played at on Saturday every game is on the table.  Cal's defense is not good, but I'm not sure Texas will face an elite or even above average defense the rest of the way.  It may be a ton of shootouts, but for every game they can win they aren't supposed to it negates the others.  For instance, in my preseason prediction I had them 7-5 with losses to TCU, Notre Dame, Baylor, West Virginia, and Kansas State.  The last two are winnable if not toss up games and would flip the impact.  Obviously a lot hinges on beating Oklahoma State this weekend (very doable) and beating Oklahoma (which i've believed they will do all offseason).  

Also I'm deplorable at match but 6 of the next 8 gets you to 7-4 right?
