Saban is not coming to Texas and im ok with that:

Sorry but I don't see Gruden doing well with a college program whatsoever. Didn't think he was that good of an NFL coach either and he kind of crapped all over Chris Simms while in Tampa as well.
I wish I could stop hearing this guys name in relation to this position... I fail to see the benefit of Gruden! Charismatic maybe but I just don't see him bringing us success.

For the billionth time, Gruden hasn't coached at any level since 2008 and has not been in college in over two decades....

Look I get the Saban as Texas coach thing, but he is not coming here. I do believe there are coaches out there that can change the program around... ie ... Kirby Smart

KS: "Coach, I've been getting some calls. I'm ready to take the next step."

NS: "Is the opportunity better than the potential to coach here after I leave?"

KS: "You planning on leaving soon?"

NS: "You know how I roll. I'd hate to lose you and we would sure benefit from our continuity here together. I can't promise you anything, but I will throw your hat on the table when the school looks for my replacement."

KS: "I'll stay."

NS: "Good choice. Hook...errRoll Tide!"

Smart would be a helluva hire but I think his name has been relatively soft the last couple of years because there might be a hciw plan already in place.

Smart also covets the Georgia job, and Mark Richt has messed that up by hanging on so long.

We all know how HCIW works don't we...

Sure, you either leave the job for another one when you get screwed and flop (Brown/Muschamp)...... or you replace a guy doing just fine and send him to an early grave (Stewart/Holgorsen)

I think Smart has it made. He gets to cherry pick the hell out of any jobs that he could get hired at or he stays where he is and takes over from Saban when Saban leaves or retires. There might not be a better gig in all of college football right now. Look at what Miles has been able to do on the coattails of Saban.

That said, Smart would be C-R-A-Z-Y to turn down the Texas job if we offered it to him. Even if the 'Bama job is his when Saban leaves, how do you turn down $4-5 million a year to coach THE premier job in all of college football? I would without a doubt be ok with hiring Smart if we missed on Saban. I doubt that we would hire someone without head coaching experience, but the last time we made a coaching hire we overlooked a pretty good national title winning assistant and that came back to bite us in the ass pretty hard.

We could definitely do a lot worse IMO. But we won't even give him a look I'm sure because of the people who would be inquiring about the job the second it opened up.
