Long time lurker over on OB who's only information has ever been on Lache Seastrunk as father and family are from Temple and Garrett Gilbert as I went to LT High and have many friends with little brothers and sisters there during his time.

Anyways, I play in the men's soccer league here in Austin and a very very high up in Alabama athletic department also has a son that plays in this league. We have become good friends ever since the 2009 championship game and so I have been giving him grief about his dad going bonkers on losing Saban to Texas and the response from both my buddy and his dad was laughter. They said yes, Saban likes the possibility of coaching Texas and retiring to the city of Austin, but that it will not happen for a number of reasons.

1. He is on a historic run at Bama and wants to continue

2. He truly feels as though the revival of the Texas program would take longer than most Texas fans realize

3. It is not all the about money

4. He likes the SEC conference and coaching against LSU, Auburn, Georgia, etc

My buddy said his dad did confirm the rumors that Texas is looking at NFL coaches who they feel could completely change the culture at Texas, but that Harbaugh was not one of them. He said that the NFL coach they like the most is actually a former coach - Jim Mora..

Again, I am no insider nor do I have any privileged information other than knowing the son of a higher up in the Bama athletic department, but I thought it was interesting enough.

I hope that McPhaul and gang are right as I would love to see what Saban would do against the weak Big12.

Lastly, I am new to this board, but I love the product and think y'all are doing a wonderful job. Everything is clean, smooth and well run without a lot of the idiots and nonsense that occurs on other boards. Keep up the great work!

Get over Saban. Not happening. Realistic. Why replace a legend with a legend six months younger? Need a guy that can put a fence around the state, get whomever he wants, go into these homes, and make them believe the press clippings. Unrealistic expectations are a dangerous thing. If Texas fans think 2013 is bad, it is about to get a lot worse unless something drastically changes between now and spring ball. Honest assessment.

Thanks, looks like level 5 info, but It makes a lot of sense.

I doubt that Saban would leave where he is to come to Texas. I agree there is a big rebuild to do. Jim Mora would make sense

I would pay attention, very heavy attention. to Todd Graham. No rumors through contacts. Just his resume'. A young candidate that already knows how to recruit in Texas. Throw win-loss record and his jumping ship every 15 minutes of it. Texas is a destination job. He would never leave unless forced out. That might be your guy. Look at the resume, look at his success. Not a the "name" that Texas fan want but it might make the most logical sense. Logic does not normally apply with a fan base, however.

The rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M has passed on the field of play, but it extends into living rooms across the state of Texas. The sleeping giant is awake.

I thought Patterson had some clause or something that said he couldn't "bring" any ASU coaches with him to Texas? Or did I just make that up?

I'd rather go with Malzahn.

Fire Rick Barnes!

Appreciate the info

With great coaching on both sides of the ball Texas should have gone undefeated this year in a weak big 12. Whoever Texas hires will have a chance to compete for the conference right away, and win a lot of games. It would take some time to get back to the national title picture, but not sure I buy Saban would look at UT, the recruiting pool he would have access too, and chances of running the table in the big 12 to put yourself in the college playoffs on a regular basis as negative in terms of Texas being a many year rebuild.

Will be interesting to see what happens. The main insiders are not backing off the Saban situation, and seem to actually be more confident today than even a few weeks ago.

I just read 80% posted this morning on IT from a named staff member Will be fasicinated to see how this plays out.

Jim Mora Jr. will NOT be the next coach. In fact, he's not even going to be vetted. There's a much better chance Texas ends up with Saban than Mora. Fail.

thats cool with me... i am not a saban guy. i just dont think it is a fit. amazingly successful, but i do not think it works out well for him @ Texas. i am an urban, briles, gus type guy. i want the spread badly here. football has changed and the saban at bama blueprint would be difficult to replicate here in Texas. what i really prefer is a plug and play system with high quality athletes. when you look at oregon, baylor, auburn, etc... and the high powered offenses when they have the talent they are great. however, they are cyclical with their talent levels an advantage that Texas would have to keep the train rolling, like bama- but different.

we can still have a salty D simply based on getting a great DC and talent.

this formula will lead to mounds of hardware imo...

Seriously. I'm going to be so disappointed if Texas ends up with Mora as Coach next year.

Will be an interesting 6-8 weeks no doubt. Feels like the smokescreen efforts are in full force now.

Not my first choice, but I would be ok with him. He looks like he has done a good job at a moribound UCLA program

If Todd Graham becomes the Texas coach DKR will be half empty. I for one would never attend another game and would cease my LHF membership.

I am one who does not think think Saban comes to Texas with that said if he was to leave Texas would be a likely destination. I find it funny not ONE Bama insider/fan thinks he would leave Bama. I think they have developed a certain arrogance that I feel has led to Texas being in the shape it's in now.

I am sure I read that patterson has a clause in his agreement with ASU that forbids him from hiring ASU athletic personel, but I don't know if that includes coaching staff.

Anyway, I doubt graham would be a contender in these sweepstakes.

Mora, Gus, Anderson, Tomlin, Jim Harbaugh, and a host of others would get the call before Graham
