This is Jimbo's last job. Think about it....the last two times his team was ranked top ten preseason, he left the team in shambles.

He got lucky once with a generational QB and made the mistake of thinking he was a good coach.

This would be fun to watch, but I'm on the side that believes nothing they did was NIL related.

It's quite a complicated matter. NIL + transfer portal gives these kids leverage, power and lots of money. I am of the belief that it is wrong to withhold any of those things from the players as it greatly limits their personal freedoms and rights. Are any other students limited in their ability to make money or transfer schools?

At the same time, a good number of these 18 year olds without fully formed frontal cortexes are not well equipped to handle this responsibility and power, especially with 7 figures in their bank accounts.

Some reasonable guide rails on NIL may help. Trying to get rid of the pay for play might help. Ultimately as a team (because Texas can only control what they control), I would invest a lot of resources into whatever type of guidance programs you can establish to help these guys cope with the overnight fortunes. The teams that best utilize NIL to their advantage while also not completely losing control of the locker room will be the ones who succeed in this new era.

wow, this could potentially be the first time a P5 school has to cancel the rest of it's season due to a lack of players leaving.  I know they backed out of a bowl game because of players leaving (or they were just scared) and Kansas cancelled games in the Covid season.

I see your points, but have a different take.

If they are old enough to vote for president, etc., then it is hard to have it both ways. I've seen people over 40 squander millions. Eventually a legal adult has to take personal responsibility, regardless of legal age.

Agree; however, Pandora's box has already been opened.

With the kind of $$$$ guarantee he has, why would he work another day in his life. I think he is working by the motto - "if the minimum wasn't good enough, it wouldn't be the minimum." ?
