Ronnie Hoggins names his final three schools (By: Aaron Carrara)

Ronnie Hoggins (Monarch High School, Coconut Beach, FL) was offered by Texas as part of the recent surge in scholarship offers extended to the high school talent in The Sunshine State. Hoggins, a cornerback for the Knights, is 5-9 and 165 lbs. and has 14 interceptions in 8 games this season.

Hoggins told HornSports early Tuesday morning that he has narrowed his college choices down to three schools: TCU, Texas and Marshall. Additionally he told us he plans to take an official visit to Austin sometime in December, but does not have a date solidified just yet.

Family ties to Texas coaching Staff

Hoggins has family ties to the coaching staff at Texas. His cousin, Chris Morley, plays defensive back at The University of Memphis. Morley was recruited and coached by current Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach Chris Vaughn. Hoggins told us he’s very familiar with Coach Vaughn via his cousin’s recruitment at Memphis.

His cousin isn’t the only Division-I athlete in the family - his brother Darius is a wide receiver at The University of Louisiana - Monroe. With multiple family members having gone through the recruiting process, Hoggins is comfortable with where he is at and when he will make his decision.

“I won’t wait until National Signing Day to announce. I plan to graduate early, so I will make my announcement as soon as I have made up my mind.”

To put into perspective how well Hoggins is playing this season, here is a look at the INT leaders, all-time in 11-man High School Football:

Hoggins has 5 more regular season games and most likely a few games in the post-season (the knights are 8-0 thus far on the season) to add to his INT total.  He has a shot at creeping into the top 10 all-time for INT's.....  Impressive.

His size worries me. 

Worry about TCU when it comes to Hoggins.  The Horned Frog is the 'Horns biggest threat to landing this kid.  Also,Quandre Diggs is 5-10, so I wouldn't worry too much about his height.  I don't know his vertical but I can assure you he can jump and he can make plays that a lot of athletes cannot.

Diggs may only have an inch of height, but his 30 lbs really helps. Hopefully Hoggins will have a late growth spurt.

Obviously his size isn't preventing him from producing in HS. He'll need extra weight to be physical enough for the Big 12.

Aaron...below is what Vance Bedford had to say after we played Iowa State. After reading this, I'm surprised he wants more 5'8" guys on the field playing for him unless he has very specialized schemes in mind.  Having success playing against medium talent high school teams is a LONG way from having success when you play against grown ass men.

Cotch, the weight is the obvious concern as opposed to the height.  He'll add it when he gets to college.

Pringle my man, EJ Bibbs will push around any DB in the Big 12.  He's 270 lbs and a nasty TE.

Aaron--I know that Bibbs is an exceptional player.....but for whatever reason..he had more success playing against Texas DBs than those of 3 or 4 other teams he's faced this year. But it's beside the point....you don't have to be a 270 lb tight end to give a 5'9" 180 lb DB a hard time. Plenty of 6'2" and 215 guys that play physically that I wouldn't want a mighty mouse matched up against.

I don't really have my heart into doubting our recruitment of Hoggins. I am concerned about his size but I don't have an actual clue as to what our staff's thinking is...and obviously..they want to win football games just as much as we all do...and if they want him..they must think he can help them win.
