Ray Charles

I saw Ray Charles in Abilene in 1968, I believe, at Abilene Christian University.  Best show that I had ever seen.  They wanted him to keep the Raylettes from doing their backup dance choreography up on stage.  He promised as much, but once the performance began that promise went out the window.  After a couple of songs, he flashed that great big smile of his and told the audience of the requirement.  He said that he could not see whether they were dancing or not and suggested that if any part of the performance offended anyone that that was not their intention, and maybe they should just close their eyes, listen to the music, and pretend that they could not see!  Nothing more was said.  I left ACU after two years and transferred to UT.  I wanted to take some philosophy courses and the only philosophy course offered was the philosophy of religion.  ;)

I saw Ray Charles (before he became a heroin addict) at the Doris Miller Auditorium in Austin in 1957.  City Colosseum had 'em all - Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Clyde McPhatter, Elvis, Fats Domino - all the legends and I saw them all.

Everyone may be interested in knowing that Elvis was just the opening act for Carl Perkins, in those days.

You little snot nosed kids on here don't know what real rock and roll is.  Hell, you think todays crap and rap is music.
