Who: Texas Longhorns 2-3 (1-1) vs Oklahoma Sooners 4-1 (1-1)
When: Saturday, October 11, 11:00 AM
Where: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas TX (ABC Broadcast)
Odds: Oklahoma -14.5
The Good: The Sooners have remedied some of their offensive woes that plagued them last season under Blake Bell. Trevor Knight has shown some flashes he could develop into a quality quarterback. The Sooners have also found a weapon in the running game with Samaje Perine. Perine has tallied 506 yards rushing so far and has 8 touchdowns. While the Sooner defense hasn't been a lockdown unit they have been a big play defense that has forced turnovers and game changing momentum plays. Sterling Shepard has been a big play machine at the receiver position, and the Oklahoma offensive line has shown a lot of improvement from last year.
The Bad: Suspensions plagued the Sooners early resulting in the losses of Joe Mixon and Dorial Green-Beckham before either had the chance to take a snap in a Sooner uniform. Running back Keith Ford's injury was a bit of a setback that was quickly fixed by the emergence of Perine. While Knight has been able to move the offense and has shown flashes, he has a 5/5 TD/INT ratio and has struggled mightily with his accuracy only completing at a rate of 54%. These issues culminated in a 37-33 stunner at the hands of TCU this past weekend. While the Oklahoma defense has turned in some big plays, they have struggled with stopping some big plays as well. Their saving grace is that they have been very good inside the redzone.
The Uncertain: It would be cliche to say throw the records out the window, but as we saw last season you never quite know what could happen in a rivalry game. The Longhorns have struggled to move the ball on offense, but have played inspired defense against tough passing teams in UCLA and Baylor. With Knight's propensity for turning the ball over and erratic accuracy, the Sooners could face a test on their side of the ball.
