What: Baylor Bears 4-0 (1-0) vs Texas Longhorns 2-2 (1-0)
When: Saturday Oct. 4, 2014 at 2:30 PM (ABC)
Where: Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin TX.
Odds: Baylor +14.5
The Good:
The Art Briles train continues to roll in Waco. Baylor boasts the top offense in the nation averaging 641 yards per game to go along with a 56 point average. Bryce Petty continues to put up video game numbers while true freshman K.D. Cannon leads all Big 12 receivers. The Bears have found more balance for their offense as well averaging 239 yards per game on the ground. The Baylor offensive line has yet to give up a sack this season as well. They’ve added a much improved defense to the mix as well led by the monster defensive end Shawn Oakman and middle linebacker Bryce Hager. The Bears are holding opponents to an average of 250 yards per game and 14 points.
The Bad:
There isn’t a lot of bad to point to when it comes to Baylor. The Bears did struggle to contain Iowa State’s Sam Richardson and the defense hasn’t forced many turnovers thus far.
The Uncertain:
Bryce Petty did sustain a somewhat serious back injury in the first game of the season and is continuing to play through it. Team personnel have said the injury is more about pain tolerance than anything else. Though his offensive line has kept him nearly untouched, he could experience more pain if opposing defenses start to get pressure on him.
What’s at Stake:
For Baylor, they are in the pole position for a second straight conference championship and are looking to tighten their grip on some of the state’s top prospects. Some of these prospects will be in attendance on Saturday and Baylor would love to put on a show for any of those who are undecided.
