Please FIX this site

I use a desktop, google chrome, and fast Suddenlink internet service. Everything works perfectly on every site that I enter. Last week for a couple of days and beginning again yesterday this site worked in spits and fits. Same as today. Locks down, won't scroll, goes blank white, and slows to a crawl. I have no problem with any other site. During the 1st half of last nights game I for the most part couldn't get on this site. Works intermittently. Please help. Anyone else having issues?

I am getting so many pop up ads that it is making this site very difficult to come to even with pop up blockers and other tools .  It takes forever now for pages to load.  Will not keep coming back if this keeps up.

I used to keep this site open all the time but I found it does effect other sites I need for work.

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it's just too much hassle to finish posting replies so I just give up. They said last week  that problems were only affecting desktops. That's all we have. I don't have a smart phone and I'm not about to buy one.

I believe we understand and accept the need to advertise to help pay for a free site. However if the Ads impact the ability for people to visit/comment/use the site, that seems counter-productive.

I like this site, the people and the civil conversations however this is causing me, and maybe others, not to visit as frequently as we have in the past.

I agree that ads are necessary, but ads that cripple the site seem counterproductive.

I run Chrome extensions:  AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, and uBlock.  

Just search them on google and get the extensions.  Then you will be issue free.

Is this happening on smart phones, desktops, or both?   I only use my smart phone to surf the web when I am traveling.  Lately, I have only been using my desktop for the web, and by and large I am having no problems with popup, popunder or popover ads.  I am using Windows 7 as an operating system and Waterfox (64 bit) as a browser.  Some web sites don't like the way Waterfox uses or rather doesn't like to use Java (Sorry Java, the computer language, not you !!! ), so sometimes I have to use Chrome as a browser.  I have been thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 ... maybe I should not oughta ?!

I have uBlock installed but currently have it turned off ... no problems.  I have used various versions of AdBlock in the past, but I found that they did not play well with others, so I stopped using them.  Later versions of the programs may work well though, so maybe they should be checked out.  I have Vipre Antivirus and Malwarebytes always running in the background, and I run a custom manual Malwarebytes scan including rootkits, the freeware versions of Wise Disk Cleaner, Ccleaner (both the disk cleaner and the registry cleaner), and Wise Disk Registry Cleaner at least once a week.

With regards to Malwarebytes, I keep active Web Protection turned off or my system locks up, but I keep active Exploit Protection, active Malware Protection, and active Ransomeware Protection turned on.  On my wife's laptop, I can keep Web Protection turned on but that computer is running Windows 8 ... sometimes these computer security programs do not play well with each other if they have comparable active modules turned on.  Depending on what programs you are trying to use, trial and error determines what you can and cannot use together. 

With regards to desktops, I have found that if you find a good antivirus  program and anti-malware program ( I re-evaluate them annually), let them run scans automatically behind the scenes if they work well with each other, and then run their scans manually along with other free versions of disk and registry scanners, on a regular, weekly, basis, you can 'eliminate a lot of these problems.  If you continue to have problems, get yourself a good anti-keylogger program ... you can find them free of the web ... and run them occasionally.

I am not a computer security expert by any means, but I have built and configured more than a few graphic computers and networks for architectural firms that I have worked for because nobody else had the inclination to do so, and they did not want to pay professionals to do it.

I don't have any good experience or advice for smart phones ... I have an extreme dislike for smart phones ... but that is another story altogether.

I'm on a MacBook Pro laptop. I run Safari. I keep three other websites open at all times. I create a new window for Hornsports when I visit instead of just keeping it open.

My Safari has the same issue, but it is not unique to Hornsports.com. I get it when visiting intellicast.com the most. Anywhere there are graphic-intensive sites, you'll have a hiccup now and then.

That could be true but it depends.  Is the revenue generated as a PPC or PPI from the adnetwork.  If its PPC then every single one of us regulars are hurting the revenue generated unless we click an advertisement every now and then.  If its PPI then technically the browser still renders the ad but the adblock extension inserts a "display:none;" or a "visibility:hidden;" style to the rendered page, so technically the advertisement impression is still recorded it just not displayed on the client browser.   It appears Hornsports uses DoubleClick based on the rendered page below.  Since I dont run any ads sites I am not sure if its PPI or PPC.  Could be PPConversion as well.  So unless your actually buying that blender that your wife looked at 3 days ago on amazon from clicking this ad then you are hurting the revenue generated as well.

There are other ads in the code.  A video is almost 8.6 MB's.  Sorry but pageload time is terrible.  I ran an audit of the site in chrome the pageload time is almost 700% the recommended network load.   No offense to Aaron and the crew but thats way too high for most modern browsers to sustain.

I would gladly pay a subscription to keep this site ad free for myself.  Hell I would go as far as letting Hornsports host heir site and database on my own servers free of charge in exchange for being able to view this site without the assault of ads bombarding every page I view.  

Every ad site including Google deal with adblockers.  Its like  bitcoin love it or hate but they are here to stay.  There are ways for site owners to make sure you cant view content unless your ad blockers are disabled but then again if Doubleclick and these other ads publishers would build less intrusive ads then sites like Hornsports would not risk losing visitors. 

This issue is more on the ad publishers being too intrusive or running so much tracking crap it drains client browsers and becomes a memory sink than it is on the visitors (running adblocks) or the site owners who rely on the income generated from those ads.

There is so much tracking crap embedded in those scripts, even when they are running asynchronous, they kill the memory of clients browser.  With adblockers enabled this page loads in 7 seconds.  With adblockers disabled the page load time is 34 seconds.  Those numbers are straight from chrome development tools

You my friend are a bonafide genius. Your line of work HAS to be computer software. Although I read every single thing you wrote about PPI and PPC I didn’t understand a lick of it lol. All I know is I have to exit out of a ton of ads here, but sounds like that’s going to just be part of it
