Patterson: Saban never pursued

Saban won the MNC at LSU . . . by beating Oklahoma.
Yes, Patterson called Saban. It's easy to say it didn't happen and there's nothing to suggest now that it didn't happen. It's just easy to think that. It's really not important at this point, Charley Strong is our man.

No, Patterson is not going to admit to flirting with someone who would not accept. No, Saban is not going to admit to being courted after recommitting to Bama. If you were expecting to hear that, think about what Saban would be going through now if he had admitted it, or Patterson had admitted it. Nothing good comes from admitting that.

McPhaul and JS lost zero credibility. They pass along information. With JS, simply look at the Dodds retirement, the contact with Saban last January, etc. To suggest he lost credibility is just not reality. McPhaul's connections were solid as well. There's just more to the entire picture than his info can encompass sometimes and information doesn't always flow fast enough. However, his connections continue to grow, even during this coaching search. That's a great thing for this site.

But again, it's time to let this go. You can follow or not follow whoever you want. Strong's our guy and I'm really looking forward to seeing the new staff he puts together and also how he finishes this recruiting class. Horn Sports will be in the middle of it all. It's an exciting time to be a Horn.
I agree with everything you said here. McP, JS, Aidensdad and a few others said the offer was on Saban's desk and there is no reason not to believe that's true.

Just because we didn't land him does not mean that we didn't try to. Patterson is saying what he has to now.

But this is a moot point now. Charlie Strong is our coach and even with all the MNC hardware Saban has, there is no guarantee he would do any better here than coach Strong.

I am really excited for next season to start! I feel good things are instore for Texas! Hook 'Em!

Per Bohls this morning Patterson NEVER submitted a formal offer to Saban. Also said in article that the BMD;s were trying to work a deal with Saban but both Patterson & Powers were against it. Very good read in the Statesman.

No Patterson did not personally submit the offer. Not the only did the BMD's submit an offer to Saban but, it was signed off by the University legal department.

I know this for a fact.

Seriously, you aren't a family friend of the Saban's. You do not know they discussed or considered a move. Quit believing rumors. It's done and over. Bohls?? Seriously, he's getting hits on his editorial (an opinion based article). BMDs probably did push Saban. But Patterson never pursued and did the job he was hired to do by the BoR and president. Strong is gonna kick a$$ and I'm excited about the future! Hook em! And hook em high
Seriously, I'm not a family friend of the Saban's. I know their son and I know people who are close to them. Nick Saban was considering leaving Alabama. The End.

I didn't run in here posting every time my phone buzzed, I know how to discern baseless rumor from legit intel and I only shared two instances when I knew what I'd heard was coming from people who ARE close to the family and have no history of rumor-mongering.

You're welcome to continue selling whatever you like about Saban, Bohls, Patterson, the BMD's- clearly you've got it all figured out. That has to feel good, right? Outside of my belief that Saban was considering leaving Alabama, I won't commit to selling ANYTHING else with regard to this issue.

The bottom line for me. It's time to move on. I'm all in with Texasstrong

Don't sweat it WTW. You can't make other people believe what they do not want to believe. I for one trust in the info you and others have posted here all along. I sensed no deception in what you said and you always seemed like an honest person to me.

Thanks, but I'm not worried about my own credibility, it's not like my book sales are contingent upon how well-liked I am on a football message board, you know? I just feel defensive of McPhaul and any others who are paying real-life consequences because people have the audacity to accuse them of bullshi**ing for the sake of bullshi**ing. Admittedly, I'd probably feel differently if I didn't have independent knowledge that supported their reports, but I had to weigh in, FWIW, to underscore how ludicrous the 'HE WAS NEVER COMING!' posts are.

Earlier this evening, I got a little ping on Bleacher Report (likely source) about a quote from Patterson that Texas never considered Nick Saban. I tried to find it to link it, but it's gone. Anyone else see it?

I don't understand. What else do you really expect him to say? "We've tried to get him but failed"?
