Pat Forde on Mack Brown/Powers

Wow, it's pretty obvious the source for this story was Mack himself. I suspect he's putting his $13M exit package at risk with this type of nonsense. This is precisely the type of story Mack was threatening to go public with to try and hold Powers & Patterson hostage.
If not Mac directly, definitely one of his henchmen.

So Powers told him to announce he was staying on Friday, but he didn't want to make the banquet about him? What a crock of $#@!. I'm not buying that after all this time Powers would send Patterson in to do the dirty work either. I'm pretty sure Friday afternoon, he knew his days were numbered.
Word was that Mack had not stepped aside and Powers had civil war on his hands from the regents and the BMDs on Sat morning I absolutely think that is correct As to who said what to Mack, I don't know about that

Totally believable until the Nebraska part. Nebraska hates that dude. Haha!

Mack is not the man he wants us all to believe he is. Total classless move on his part.

I don't know, reports about his demeanor Friday night weren't reflective of a guy who'd held onto his job and had been told by the president to announce he was staying.

The problem was that Mack had not announced Friday night and the word was that he was staying. That Sat morning, Powers had mass defections and revolution on his hands from the bmds and at least two regents.

Powers problems were so intense that it led to Mack announcing Sat afternoon That much I am as sure as I can be.

As far as how it was relayed to Mack, I just don't know

Screwing up the 'Viper' deal, hardly. This article is a day late and a dollar short. Macks balls have been removed Bag. You know that.
Until it happens: Mack 1 - Texas/Powers/Patterson/BMD 0

The source for this is obviously mack and UT should pull his severance package.

Just had a vision of him throwing down at the gates, being dragged away by security- "But Joe said he was leaving me a ticket!"

The looks and posture of Mack and Sally at the football banquet were not those of a couple who had won and were staying on.

The pitiful irony of this scorecard is that 1 victory cost Mack everything he ever cared about....which was his "legacy" at Texas. He was so ate up worrying about Saban overshadowing his "legacy" that in trying to undermine him he ultimately burned his legacy to the ground with the guys who ultimately control that sort of thing.

yep, very sad in many ways.

You guys have it mostly right. There was an attempt by Powers and some to effectively say a public goodbye at the banquet but Mack went petulant. Completely balked at the terms he'd agreed to.

Patterson was hired to make changes. There was never going to be any other outcome absent a run to a BCS game and maybe not even then.

Powers is getting something of a bad rap. Mack f*ed Powers over. Why we're going to continue to pay the guy is a f*ing mystery to me. With his actions of late, good riddance and come back in about ten years when I've calmed down.

The amount of BS that we are having to deal with now is equal to the amount of BS that was applied to justify to everybody's lying eyes when we were told, again and again, that running a clean, family program with integrity was what mattered.

Texas demands a relatively clean program and it definitely demands the man running the show do it with integrity. The one thing that was forgotten in all this mess is Texas demands a winner.

Agreed MB didn't look like a guy who was coming back at the banquet. I hope Patterson was not telling MB it was his choice! Not sure what to believe.

It is common in an organization for your direct boss to tell the employee, "you have been let go", so it was Patterson's job not Powers to tell MB adios.

With his behavior this past few weeks and the fact that he stole $10+ million, I will never welcome him back. And his continued behavior with the Forde Yahoo article.
