A guy who's takes I generally really like but strongly disagree here . ..though he might be right about the "access" .. .

He thinks it should be Fisher but I have to think that Fisher said no to a $2 million a year raise from his $4.1 mil FSU offer. . .

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/headlines/20140103-national-columnist-charlie-strong-would-be-the-absolute-worst-fit-for-texas-job-jimbo-fisher-top-candidate-left.ece

On the other side, Forde also said that Louisville coach Charlie Strong, long considered a top candidate for the job, wouldn't fit in with the Longhorns at all.

"Strong would, in fact, be the absolute worst fit for the job anyway," Forde wrote. "He is the anti-Mack Brown, completely averse to extensive interaction with media and boosters. Strong is from the Greta Garbo school – he wants to be left alone. That wouldn't fly at Longhorn Network University. If he's hired, you're free to wonder whether the people involved with the search asked the right questions and got the right answers."

By that standard.. .Saban would have been terrible too. . .he looks like he's getting a root canal when he's forced to interview. .

PS, hates not hate in the title. ..can't edit titles here.

I respect Pat and love his work but doesn't he live in L'ville? Sound like he has a little grudge.

Pat Forde is a HUGE Mack Brown fan and thinks Texas did him dirty as well

Who cares if he's the anti Mack Brown? Texas isnt trying to hire the next Mack

Give me a guy who's focused on Xs and Os and winning over someone who's good in front of a camera.

I thought we wanted the anti-Mack... I think this is Forde putting his personal feelings into his reporting.

I think Pat's point about "access" is more than fair. . .I just think his conclusion is wrong. .

Didn't realize he was tight with Mack ....... I'm as big a Mack supporter there is (this side of Jamail) but it was time. . .it was handled wrong because of the egos of some of our rich boys. .. on both the pro and anti mack sides. ..

Results: That is all that matters. Right now the first and most immediate thing we can judge him on is what kind of class he's able to put together before February. Let's wait and see.

If he is trying to hurry up and get from in front of the cameras to get back to the practice field, I am all for it. Pat Forde does nothing for me..ever

I agree with you. Pat Forde spoke similarly towards UT when Jurich was considered a candidate. He ended up being correct there, but his tone suggests a bit of homer-ism on the Louisville guys. He just wants them to stay in my view. Also, all of this stuff about how the UT job requires this persona and that persona is a bit off target in my view. That is how Mack Brown chose to coach at Texas. That was his style, and it worked well for him for many years. But to suggest that is the definitive blueprint for success at UT is inaccurate. There are lots of football coaches out there at major state universities (MANY of which are political hotbeds right now given the funding issues in public higher education - not just Texas) who have great success without the Mack Brown charm. And frankly, I think most at UT are looking forward to a change in personality in that regard. Not out of animosity for Mack, but because change is good after 16 years.

After the last four years that's a complement and an endorsement for Strong.
