3 months of free time coming up.

Going Italy for 10 days. Any other travel ideas?

Besides traveling, my goal during my free time are:

Get down to 140lbs and 20% body fat. I'm 5'8, currently at 148lbs.

Play lots of cheap golf.

Go hiking at Enchanted Rock. Great for pictures. You'll probably lose a pound or two just in that trek.

I was also thinking about a home remodel project: lay wood floors at my brother's house. Just the hallway and living room area only. Doesn't seem too hard on You Tube.

Last time I had ample time off (pre-wife & kids and between jobs) I went to South America (Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia etc.) and basically went from multi-day mountain hiking trip to 10 day jungle trip, to cycling trip etc. for about a month and a half.

I left thinking I was 10 lbs overweight and with no diet or effort other than having fun, I came back about 30 lbs lighter and in the best shape of my life. And at that time (10 years ago) I think I spent about $30-40/day.

Highly recommended for both the cultural and fitness experience. Many ladies were travelling alone without issues and I personally wouldn't be worried, but you need to make your own judgement on safety.

How long is the hike?
Well there are quite a few trails. Enchanted Rock itself rises 425 Feet. You'd be there for a few hours checking everything out. Totally worth the visit. If you're doing it in the summer, I'd recommend going when they open so you're not there during the hotter part of the day.

I helped lay wood floors in my parents' house and about to lay wood floors in my house. Definitely not too hard once you get the hang of it.

I'm only going to Rome and Southern Italy and Sicily. Maybe on next Italian trip.

That's too bad. Le Cinque Terre kicks southern Italy butt.

Lumber Liquidators for best price? And would your recommend bamboo or engineered hardwood?

I think you should spend some of the time doing a seminar on how to get three months of free time.

On the weight loss issue, I dont know how detail oriented you are -- but if so inclined, ......

I went with a system along these lines - it works> http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=553453753#post553453753

(be careful on that site, it can be a rabbithole - u can get lost in there easily)

I also used Fitday to keep track of everything - i did it daily for about 6 months

Now I ride a bike - use Map My Ride and a Fitbit to keep track

On the excess time/vacation ideas (non-europe)

I surf. And I insist that the water be warm.

That translates to Central America. Costa Rica and Nicaragua are my favs. Really, anywhere south of Cabo.

I was thinking of Thailand. Maybe Bangkok and Koh Samui.

If you're a craft beer fan and want to get away from the Texas heat, I highly recommend spending a few days in Missoula, Montana. Wonderful craft beer scene, and a great small college town feel to the town itself. Hoping to make it back that way at some point this year.
