One very simple question

Is the University of Texas football program better off today with Charlie Strong & who ever he brings in on his staff without the recruits who just decommitted then still having Mack Brown & his staff with all the current recruits. I think the answer is pretty simple to answer. Hell yes we are better off.
Agreed.

There's going to be an adjustment period that may feel uncomfortable, but we're moving in a direction better than the previous.

I think we are...NA Hell Yes we are.

We will find out soon enough. One advantage Strong has already is he won't be playing Case McCoy at QB. Huge advantage to Strong and whoever he brings in at OC.

We need some QB depth, some TEs, DTs, DEs, and LBers right away. I think we only have 3 DEs returning next season which is pretty scary.

DTs decommiting after hiring a coach that had one of the best defenses in the country is kind of puzzling.

I don't think we're overreacting, I think we're just discussing things that interest us.
Some our discussing. ..some are already trying to find life jackets . ..and this an observation based on 3 boards not just this one. . .frankly McPaul seems to have culled a strong group of more rational thinkers. . .

Then there is me. . . .

MBHORNSFAN - People not happy with the Watson hire aren't happy because there's no reason he has to be the choice by Strong, he's in control of the choice.

lol...gotcha! If we keep seeing more and more decomits I may start overreacting! lol

Ask the question this time next year. The are a lot of coaches and staff he could hire and recruits that would be worse than what we have now. Take the blinders off. Hopefully he will be great, when McWilliam's was hired he was going to save the day, Aggies thought they had the steal of the century with Fran.

If Strong doesn't produce in the first 10 years like Brown did, will we be better off, or does he just have to surpass the last 4 years.? Did Texas swing for the fences with the Strong hire or just swing to be better than 8-4? What fans expectations are of Strong and whether his hires, recruits, point to being better off and eventually wins and losses meet fans expectations are okay to discuss are they not? It was time for a change but whether it was the right change is open for discussion and that is what is happening with the fan base.

What puzzles me the most about Strong potentially hiring Watson is the fact the he is basically being given a blank check to go and get the best of the best, but seems hell bent on retaining Watson. Strong admitted himself that he would let whoever ran the offense do their thing without interference. So why risk retaining a guy who was under fire at lowly UL? Makes little sense to me.

I'm pretty sure we've had decommits in the last 16 years. It seems reasonable that if their position coach or recruiter leaves, they might want to rethink everything. How many of us over the years have had changes in leadership at our jobs or industry and paused to take an assessment? Some probably needed to go - country club thoughts, some will come back more than likely after sitting down with our new coaches but in the great pageant of life - this is a time of turmoil. I still believe we are way better off today!

I think this is an excellent question . .

to the 1st part, within 10 years . ..Mack had won a Natty and was one play away from playing for 2 others (2001 2008) along with being 1 play away from winning the conference (2002 TT game) . .he played for the conference title twice. . .

CS' first 4 years? I want to see growth . . .yes. . .I know. .and give credit to Mack for playing for the Conference title this year. . .but that is a Johnny Mon achievement. . .Mack's standard is that TEXAS is "relevant" nationally and we weren't this year (or any of Johnny's 3 CTs in 6 years).. .

By year 4 if we are not on that trajectory . .. . .

I would agree, you can judge this hire after 3 or 4 yrs.

If we are not on pace to consistently compete for conference championships, beat ouSuxx at least half the time, and play in the playoff system from time to time, we may have a problem.

I'm optomistic , though.

Man a lot of people are really angry about Watson potentially coming, he wouldn't be my choice, but then I'm not a college football professional like Strong is. I will trust his judgment at this point

Rational thinkers have a way of finding each other.

YES but depending on who he brings we are not where we need to be yet.

Mack Brown with Major
Strong with Watson

is it even close? Come on.. Give me Strong/Watson
Yeah, I know, "stats are for losers", but I need some data before projecting the next 3 - 4 years.

I think we won't really know until we see the product on the field. But the potential is definitely there!
You are 100% correct. We won't know till we see them on the field but that's not stopping so many from predetermining Strongs failure. Dude is getting shit on for no reason at all.

I do try to defy stereotypes. . .

Not to change the subject but are you the member of IT who used to send DVD's of UT games to military guys that were deployed? It has been a few years and in that time I drove over an IED so I have problems with memory loss but I seem to remember your screen name from IT. If I have the wrong person I am sorry, if it is you I would like to say thank you very much!

If it is Watson it's an upgrade. Louisville avg 35 points a game last year. I think we will be fine. We hired the man to do a job. He's done a fine job doing it so far every where he's been. Why not let him do it here?

Hate like hell to hear that bro! And a big thank you for your service to this country!
