Texas OL Darius James to reportedly seek transfer
Darius James is leaving the Texas program.

James, a 6-foot-5, 304-pound offensive lineman, confirmed to the Austin American-Statesman that he’s been given his release and will transfer to another program.

James played in six games and started twice at right tackle for the Longhorns last season as a redshirt freshman, but missed the second half of the season due to a knee injury.

James, a native of Killeen, Texas, was a highly-regarded prospect coming out of the class of 2013. Rivals rated James as the top center in the class and the 65th-best player overall. He redshirted his first season on campus.

James missed the spring while continuing to rehab his injured knee, but was considered a potential starter for the Longhorns in 2015. Instead, he decided to continue his career elsewhere.

Also, Steve Edmonds is getting a try out with the Saints.

No comments? Where are the pitchforks for Wickline? (sarcasm font...)

Seems to say a lot when Darius gets passed up by the last regime's left-for-dead Taylor Doyle and the still-undersized Raulerson.

Wasn't Darius one of the few bright spots we had on the OL last year?

Interesting that Darius was one of the top OL recruits in the country when he was recruited. I checked Rivals and 24/7 and no offer from Oklahoma State and Wickline.

Looks like Wickline wasn't impressed enough with James to offer him a scholarship. Pretty much he had offer from all the Texas schools and OU, but no Wickline offer.

There weren't any bright spots.  He was just part of one of the worst OL's in the storied history of the University of Texas.  IMO, the entire OL was on a par with Blinn jr. college.

So, him transferring may actually help the OL.  We probably need a few more to transfer as well and let the young players have at it.

I think he got too overweight and has suffered injuries throughout his short career. I could see him finding success somewhere else given he was only a redshirt freshman. He also played out of position in 2014 due to the bevy of injuries sustained on the offensive line.

Initially, I was very disappointed to hear of this, that Darius James would transfer. He was a Five Star OL recruit

and I was glad UT got him. Okay...that being said, things didn't work out at UT for him.

All that said, best of luck to Darius wherever he goes...Darius, wherever you go, get your degree and make

something of yourself. Get your degree and good luck making it to the NFL, if that's what you aspire to.

Wish things had gone better for you at UT.

I can't understand or appreciate the mindset of a CFB player who wants to leave Wickline and Strong - proven developers of NFL talent - for the barren plains of AL aggie. Oh, well. It frees up a scholarship for a player who wants to be here.

Agreed... IMO he likely wants the easier way out. The sec provides that... He'll just be another name on the roster that gets lost in the mix. Besides the fact that if he were THAT good he would have solidified his position on the team, he didn't.
