Not all BMDs wanted Saban, especially one of the biggest. We were repeatedly fed the company line of its Saban and there is no No. 2...BS.
Strong has came in and w/ Patterson's help and has plugged the leaks better than the lil Dutch Boy....anyone else notice how silent the "Insiders" have been lately w/ their "inside" info. They are in the same boat as the rest of us, actually it's like they always have been...
I came to this site for one reason and I have stayed for an entirely different reason...friendly disagreements. Insiders don't like to be called out and the rest of us don't like being told we don't have a clue.
I think (I hope) that we all have the same goal and that is for Strong and the 'Horns to be successful.
Since the banquet weekend I have learned to take all info w/ a grain of salt. I haven't disagreed w/ any of the hires, just people's perception of who is a great hire.
If you disagree w/ my thoughts on Strong and his hires then that is what the board is all about.
First, for the post in the thread that said those who wanted Saban badly are hoping this all fails - at least with regard to me, who wanted Saban pretty badly at UT, that's an incorrect conclusion. I'm pretty excited about this staff. Strong is a good man to have at the top as he sets the tone for the whole operation. OSU and the 40 yr old man paid Wickline a handsome sum to concentrate his focus on an OL that would make them an elite team. Well, it worked. Otherwise, he's an OC some time ago. It's his time now.
As for the "insider" thing, I never was one. I passed along info that I heard. I've been silent lately mostly because despite my intent being true with passing along info, I hated letting people down when it proved to be wrong. I have strong feelings about not letting people down, so I'm going back to being a landscaper and poster and will occasionally share some things, but nothing like I was doing during the coaching search. I'll leave that to folks who are much better at it than I ever would be anyway.
As far as I'm concerned, let's move the thing forward and build our program back to where it's supposed to be. Saban isn't here to do it, but I'm pretty confident Strong will end up being very successful here. I can't wait until he enters the Cotton Bowl for the first time and puts Stoops in a head-lock at mid field.
