NFL Combine

I don't know that id classify him as having a weak arm. He made some pretty big time throws this year.

Agree on pocket presence. That's something he can work on.

Manziel is the best passer in this draft, and that is not just the Aggie speaking in me. ......

He said he would hit the 4.4s and he did.

Clowney had a split sub 1.5. That shows explosive move off the line.

It is unofficial, but the 4.47 40 would've finished sixth among this year's RBs.

And he measured 6-5, 266 pounds.

Kent State RB Dri Archer almost set the all-time combine 40 record.
4.26 vs. Chris Johnson’’s 4.24.

Johnson noticed too.

Dude is a freak. Only question about him is his motor and drive. Does he have it?

and Clowney tells Auburn DE Dee Ford, what?

Ford has dropped out of the skills.

As did Bridgewater.

I definitely prefer seeing the guys willing to compete.

Was Clowney's 10-yard split the fastest ever by a DL?

Clowney's 4.47 40-yd dash is nice, but the 1.56 10-yd split is more impressive. All about quick get off and explosive acceleration at DE
— Dane Brugler (@dpbrugler) <a href="

But only 21 reps on the bench

Peppers managed 24 at Combine.

Pierre-Paul got 19.

Jus sayin.

Touche. However, the KD comparision doesn't hold water since he shoots a basketball instead of rushing the QB :)

And Kevin Durant couldnt lift the bar once, even with no weights on it.
Valuable measure?
for an nba scorer, clearly not. for a guy rushing the passer who is being impeded by a 300+ pound man, i'd guess it's something of a factor. but more than speed, quickness, desire? doubt it, but what do i know.

To me, this opens up the possibility that Clowney could actually play OLB in a 3-4.

The new DC in Houston is Romeo Crennel. He is a good DC (even great), however, historically his DEs have played the traditional 3-4 DE role and not put up meaningful stats - esp pass rush stats. People in Houston are already worried about the negative effect RAC may have on JJ Watt's pass rush and other skills. I think this is overblown. RAC would have to be a complete idiot not to figure out ways to put Watt in a position to make plays. And he is not an idiot. At least not when it comes to NFL defenses.

The same worries would apply to Clowney if he were asked to play DE in RAC's 3-4. Simple solution, strong side OLB for Clowney. These times show he at least has the speed to cover a TE. Indeed he is faster than the fastest big TE of the last several years.

I think you could absolutely blow some shit up with Clowney out there (move Brooks Reed to ILB) and Watt on the DL.

Manziel is the best passer in this draft, and that is not just the Aggie speaking in me. Biggest knock on him by most is his durability, so he bulked up( has been progressively getting bigger since Spring 2013). He has never been sub 4.4 (in his own words) and his mobility is not based around speed but agility and quickness.
IMO, Manziel will be the victim of the Peter Principle. College football will be his highest plateau of achievement. I don't know how this could be any more clear than with Clowneys 40 time. These are the kinds of monsters Manziel will be facing - that are bigger, faster and more experienced then he could ever have nightmares about. He will be a boy amongst men and I would worry about his physical safety.

It's not just Manziel, it's what all NFL QB's face. That's why so many of them get injured.

I'm no draft expert but I don't think Manziel is even a 1st round draft choice. He may be taken by a club with the need to fill stadium seats, but would be the only reason.

Bridgewater is, by far, a better passer and the most polished of the QB crop this year - which is not a great year for QB's anyway.

Bench press is a very important meadure for a defensive end and clowney being weak in it shows he didnt put in his work in the weight room. he lacks shoulder strength and blovk shedding so he woll be a weakness in run support.

teddy bridgewater is something like 2.5 inches taller and 7 pounds heavier than manziel. yet no one seems to be concerned about his physical safety.
