New OC

Chip Brown says our New OC is on this list:

Jason Higdon says that Sterlin Gilbert isn't under consideration - doesn't have experience at high enough level to be considered.

I'd be surprised if its Kendal Briles - he has one season of OC experience in an offense obstensibly run by his father.

Rhett Lashlee is an interesting name - Malzhan runs the offense at Auburn, but Lashlee has worked with and in the Gus Malzhan offense since their days together at Springdale High School.  Auburn has had a bad year offensively - but they've been decimated by injuries and graduation.  He runs the type of offense Charlie wants.  Was a hot name a couple of seasons ago but has cooled off considerably this season because of their struggles.

Sean Lewis I haven't heard much or any talk about.  If (assuming) Sterlin Gilbert isn't under consideration then i don't know why Lewis would be.

Steve Spurrier - I'm going to assume this was a joke.  That said, if you let Spurrier spend 8 hours a day working on the offense and only the offense - he'd probably continue to kick ass.  Thats gives him plenty of time to do what he truly loves - golf.

That leaves Cumbie - most peoples odds on favorite at this point.

I have to say - while I think its likely Cumbie (because of his recent success and his ties to Texas and Texas recruiting) - Lashlee would be an interesting option and is much more closely associated with the type of power spread Charlie wants to run.

Per 247, Lashlee's salary is 350k and he looks to be a pretty decent recruiter.  According to their recruiting page Lashlee has pulled in some high quality 4 & 5 star prospects.

That'd be fun at press conferences, but I don't see the Ol' Ball Coach agreeing to become an OC. To your point, he'd rather play golf.

Also posted on HD is that Ol Ball Coach is a legitimate candidate for OC at A&M

On a side note...Just read that Cumbie doesn't call plays

i really hope im wrong and that i end up eating a lot of crow, but i think we are going to screw the pooch on this hire.

So when do we start watching for Cumbie or Meacham's wife to be looking at houses? Will they use the same realtor as Mrs Saban? 😃
Cumbie or Meacham will more than likely just rent the pool house/maids quarters in 1 of the 5 houses that the Sabans bought a couple of years ago.

Meachem apparently has a significant buyout for anything other than a HC gig - and isn't looking to be an OC elsewhere.

Yes - Meachem calls plays at TCU.  Of all the candidates listed above - Spurrier is the only one who called his own plays.  Most of the top offenses feature the HC as the play-caller.

As for Spurrier at aggy - that would be interesting.  Imagine it would take a lot of money, but I could see Spurrier looking at the OC gig as a part time position that would allow him plenty of time to golf.

Art turned BU over to Kendal... KB calls plays.  He'll be a HC, soon.

But, where do you play golf in Collie Station? Have they built a country club there recently?

Crazy rumor out there that LSU is interested in Briles Sr. That'd be fun!

I dont know how i feel about this, I hate briles and baylor. He is a recruiting machine though, its scary to think what he could do with LSU. If he can turn baylor from a pot of dog shit lnto to a shiny turd then he would do pretty well at LSU. I feel like it would hurt our conference tremendously though.
