New Coaching Order

I don't think Texas is gonna throw the same money that they were gonna throw at Saban to every coach on the list. When it comes down to it, being able to outbid another school doesn't mean that they will outbid them.

I still say the hire with the biggest "wow" factor might be Bobby Petrino. His problems were related to hubris and not connected with the program. If he is a changed man, he would the the one guy who can flat out coach who has a HUGE chip on his shoulder and has reasons to win (and win big) that aren't solely connected to money. A p!ssed off Petrino wanting to open a can of "f-you" on opponents (and especially on SEC schools), settle some scores and redeem himself would be scary. He has paid for his mistakes, wouldn't be a problem hire and has shown he can win. With the article about how the FSU program is out of control with respect to academics, Petrino is no more tainted than Fisher.

Texas is a better job than FSU on several fronts and would likely blow away what FSU would offer him to stay. it wouldnt even be close money wise. FSU is not going to go Texas high. no way. no how. Talent rich state in the biggest profile job is very attractive to someone Jimbo's age I would think
Colin Cowherd said last week the buzz is Jimbo to Texas and Smart to FSU. Thats what is going around in coaching circles
If no Saban, I would be extremely happy with this.

Jimbo Fisher is said to be making up ground.
If Jimbo were to leave FSU, look for FSU to interview Kirby Smart the Bama DC.

Other scenario:

Saban to Texas

Fisher to Bama

Smart to FSU

I appreciate what you do..But, I think I am ready for all of this to be done with...

McPhaul you were reading my mind..But if S somehow came to Texas then you have Fisher going to Alabama with all of S recruits stocked piled over 4 years.Since Fisher is only 48 years old Alabama could still be the power house it is now.I am starting to wonder if Fisher isn't the answer at Texas. Tough choice. Do you really see Kirby Smart at Florida State. I think it would be a successful coach now in the ranks. S might be an initial splash at Texas but in the long run is he the answer for the long haul. Recruiting: you have Tim Brewster at Florida State...Defense:Jeremy Pruitt-Florida State spent 6 years with S at Alabama. Florida State is rated in the top 5 in defense and offense in nation.I am really starting to like Fisher-Your thoughts

I don't think they are looking at Saban for the longhaul. I have a feeling they are expecting 5 years or so and hoping he could win 1 maybe 2 titles in that time. Also he would be an immediate boost to recruiting. If he did come here we would be doing this HC search again in 4 to 5 years IMO.

We are Coal.
McPhaul

Have tasted the cool aid and am all-in on the top guys you mentioned, but also have to understand where Coal is coming from.

Realistically, will either of the coaches in the MNC game leave? Even for Texas

Saban my favorite, but this whole soap opera will forever keep on turning

Jim/John both look attractive. They met each other in the Super Bowl. I can't see either happening.

Which brings us back to Doe.

Our timing here really stinks.

I'll take Briles for $5m, Alex

Fisher is the next Saban. He's a guy that I've been high on for months. Would be extremely excited about him if he were hired.

I think the fact that its so quiet is a positive sign for how this turns out. The week where it was "Saban in Mack" out, then "Mack in Saban out", then just "Mack out" is a pox on all our houses.

Is there a conference that has produced more head coaches than the SEC. My friends y'all have a great day

The more I have been reading about him....the more I want him. I think Fisher would be a GREAT hire. I like Fisher a lot. I was a Saban or bust guy. I am starting to open up to Fisher and Malzahn though.

Texas is going big and we have the pocket book to pull it off. Look at it this way, if Texas was able to have Saban locked up before Mack Brown sabotaged the timing of the deal, then Texas can get any other college football coach.

It is going to be a splash hire.

Agreed, get Saban here for 5 years, change the culture, get LHN launched nationally, get recruiting booming, 1 maybe 2 titles, get us back on top and in the playoffs consistently. Saban can retire and we can get the next young best coach in 5 years.

If not Saban. Fisher, to me is clearly better than Malzhan. FSU has had problems well b4 Fisher got there. Malzhan is a very good coach but lets see how he does next year. You have to get lucky to win a title and Gus has gotten more than his fair share this year. Its all about the quality of assistants a HC has. Thankfully, we can afford to pay ours well. Lets hope the new coach chooses the best ones.
